Does anyone have any info on aft room VD 4183. We are considering it and I am not sure if it has any problems, noise, location etc.

Also, VD 4131 (Handicapped room) we are not H/C but they are offering it to us, any downside?

How are room and balcony sizes on VD and VC category?

Any info helpful..

Hi, mk cruisers... Welcome to HAL. Zuidy is my favorite ship, but I have no personal experience with VC or VD. In general, I would opt for the wake cabin, mostly because this cabin is not fitted for HC (which means you have a tub and the shower doesn't wet the toilet and other disadvantages).

The view from the wake is also exceptional, and although you may experience some slight vibration, it's well worth the view from this double-sized balcony. It's also right above the Texas Hold'em Parlor, if it matters :D

We were in 4183 last year. It is a very nice cabin, the balcony is very nice and the aft view, if that is what you like, is great. It is a bit of a walk from most things but it is good exercise.

However! The cruise was the week that Hurricane Wilma was prowling around. The seas were a bit choppy and I really felt it in the aft. Also, the last two days of the cruise we found the dreaded "gray water" seeping into the bathroom. It was very disconcerting and people came up to try to do something about it but were unable to stop it. Not a good thing.

drdaddy When you were in the room did you have much noise or any vibrations. I've read that some people who stayed in aft cabins on deck 4 had that problem. Also how was the balcony were you able to put lounges and chairs on it and is it covered at all or totally in the open? Appreciate any help you can give. Trying to decide between this room and a vc on deck 6 on side

There is a slight overhang at the doors to the veranda but I wouldnt really say its covered

Yes, there was quite a bit of vibration at times. DW did not pay heed but I noticed it. It might be the type that some people like as a way to actually fall asleep. Not me. No undue noise that I can remember. No lounges as the steward was just OK. Efficient but not amenable to those kind of extras. The chaise would fit, though. I am sure. Not much cover but there is a bit and as the photo shows, not much privacy.

All in all, if you want an aft view, probably be worth it. I just hope they got the gray water issue cleared up. In retrospect, I gave up my deck 6 amidships and I probably would go back to the midship cabin if given a choice. Mostly due to location. (I was afraid the view from the scenic elevator would be too weird!)

I shouldn't think there would be much difference in the actual cabin, VB v. VC, other than location.

Wow! Those balconies look incredible! Is this typical of all the Holland ships? If so, I can't wait to book one!

The Vista classes, yes, although I think the balconies are a bit more covered in the retrofitted ships. We always get one of the aft corners. We got it once and now cannot go anywhere else. Normally we try for the 4th floor (you can just see the end of them on the far left of the pic) as they offer the most privacy, it is a slightly smaller room and balcony, though.

There can be slight vibrations, but we have only had that once and it was in terribly choppy seas and we were at full speed. In my opinion the worst thing is there will be some litter from them cleaning off the decks that will usually end up on your balcony, though it's only a piece of paper here or a napkin there.

To me they are the best places to watch for shooting stars at night.

Here is the view looking back towards the aft pool area

And here was another room we had on the Westerdam (IIRC), the shots were taken in the same spot just turn 160 degrees

That post is 2 years old, and Zuiderdam has since been refitted with extra cabins. Here's how she looks now:

I was searching posts talking about the aft cabins and found that photo. I realized that it was an old post, but wow! When I saw the photo I couldn't believe the room! Thanks for the insight and the photos, iamwiz82 and Candy.
