Is the beach on Goffs Caye soft bottom or do we need water shoes?

Also, I was thinking of going to Caye Caulker. Is there a soft sandy beach there?
I see that the tour from the ship is on the Thriller power boat which I cannot do due to recent surgery. Is there another option of getting there?

Check the ports of call board for the email address and website of Coral Breezes Limited. Excellent company to deal with and they offer water taxi service to Caye Caulker. I did not get there but apparently the Split on Caye Caulker is a good beach and you would have about 3 hours there if you went with Coral Breezes.

Hi Cruzn Buckeye
When are you cruising? I know we've cruised at the same time/close to the same time before!! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Here's the website for Coral Breezes:
Coral Breezes (http://www.Coralbreezelimited.com)

We took their water taxi to Caye Caulker last September...they are great!! It was much better than taking the regular water taxi because we had more time on the island and they took us directly back to the ship instead of having to take a tender. It was a great day....sooo relaxing! We rented a golf cart and cruised around the island and did a little snorkeling. Have fun!! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hi Kristin!
We are going on the Glory again in September. It's so funny because I see that you are going on the Mariner and I had actually considered that! However, in January I went to the er and found that I had a very large brain tumor. I had emergent brain surgery within 2 weeks. It was a benign meningioma, thank God, and I am doing very well now during my recovery. Anyway, we had booked the Legend for March and were unable to go because of this. We also lost our $600 deposit because we were in the penalty period and did not have insurance.
By the way...did I say I love CARNIVAL?! I wrote them a letter explaining our circumstances and they sent a letter back allowing us the $600 toward a future cruise!I don't care what anybody says...they do care about their customers!
Does Caye Caulker have a soft sandy beach? Did you book with them online or when you got off the ship? Thanks for any info!

You know, one of these days we are going to end up on the same ship and get to meet you guys! Have a great time on the Mariner!

Edy

caye caulkers beaches are sandy and soft for the most part....going in to swim ull find to be a lil more yucky with sea grass and a mucky feeling.....swimming is best done down by the Split area.......the water taxi ride over to caye caulker can be a bit fast and rough, so be aware http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

We went to Goffes Caye, and I did not want to leave. The island is TINY!! and only has a shed with a few souvineers, beer, hotdogs, cokes etc, and about 8 palmtrees on it. The sand is soft. We did the snorkle tour, but instead of snorkeling in the middle of the ocean, we just went and laid out on the beach all day and snorkled off shore. We have some AWESOME pictures. I highly recommend it!!

Hi Edy,
I'm sooo sorry to hear about your health problems, but am glad to know that you are doing better!! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif What a scare that must have been for you. That was wonderful of Carnival to allow you the $600 for a future cruise! After what you have been through, I am sure you are looking forward to getting away!

I agree with the previous poster...for the most part, the beaches at Caye Caulker are sandy and soft. We went swimming at the split....there's a great little bar there called the Lazy Lizard. The island is tiny and not touristy at all, there were hardly any people there...we loved it!! It was such a relaxing day; I didn't want to leave. You can check out some of my pictures here (all of the pics in my Belize album are from Caye Caulker)

We booked the water taxi through Coral Breeze online ...Paul was great about answering my emails & Eric and the crew on the boat are wonderful!

We are looking forward to our first cruise on RCI....it's funny that you were thinking about the Mariner for Sept. too...I know we were on the Pride together, then almost on the Glory together last year. Have a great cruise and take care!!!

We spent a week on Caye Caulker (booked scuba diving through Frenchies) and depending on when you go, be aware of the sand fleas - they were just terrible when we were there. We knew about them a head of time, as the dive operation warned us about it. But the moment we got off the water taxi, we were eaten up by those "noseeums" IMMEDIATELY. Take Cutter or something with deet. We were there in Spring, so maybe other times of the year are not so bad.

Good luck.
