We would like to do Xcaret on our own as I think we can do it cheaper. I went to the website for Xcaret and found that the admission price per adult is $49.00. In the past I have called Carnival and asked for excursion pricing with no problems. Today I called and got the speech that they don’t give out pricing because it is subject to change.

Anyone do Xcaret from the Celebration (since it may be different pricing for different ships)? What did Carnival charge?

Anyone do Xcaret on your own? How did you get to the park (taxi, bus)? We have three people – if we take a taxi will they charge us per person or a set amount to the park? About how much?

A taxi from Playa del Carmen to Xcaret is very cheap, like $10. You don't need a tour! You just show up and pay admission. I was just there in December, and it seems like the price you quoted was for all meals and everything. I thought i paid closer to $35. It is a great place though, lots to do, you need to snorkel the underground river, and see the aquarium. It was beautiful. I wasn't on a cruise, so I got to see the incredible Mayan theater at the end of the day. You will have to miss that to get back on the ship. It is still worth it though.

To answer the question from your other post, they do collect your sunscreen, it hurts the fish. They probably won't let you bring your own ecological sunscreen, unless your spanish is good enough to convince them. I recall it was around $8. FYI, my sister smuggled hers in (it peeved me off, but that's her), because her daughter will only use that one kind. So they didn't check that closely. However, I would respect their request. They have managed to keep that place absolutely beautiful.

The restaurant next to the Dolphin Discovery there has great guacamole and margaritas!

Take it from a die hard do-it-yourself person. This is one of the few Carnival excursions that makes more sense to do it through the ship. The price carnival charges is barely above admission price ($56 maybe, I can't remember exactly), plus transportation is included. The busses are waiting for you right when you get off the ship. Plus, you can go back and forth to and from the ship as many times as you want throughout the day. Personally, I didn't want to leave, but this was a very strenuous day for us, so I can totally see how those who aren't die hards or with small children might want to go back to the ship for a break. Or, if yours is the itenarary that leaves at midnight, you can go back to the ship after a day in the sun and change clothes, then return to the night show. Basically, for about the same price, why not use the ship's transportation and have the OPTION of returning as often as you like.

p.s. I LOVED Xcaret!

We decided to book on our own because they give you a 5% discount online and also Carnival says they charge for 4 year olds but Xcaret does not charge till 5 so we are saving an admission fee with our daughter. We also bought the lunch package online for $20, kids $10 and under 5 half price. It is $49 direct minus the 5% if booked online and $56 from Carnival from what I can get out of them.
They also will not quote me the Playa Sol price in Cozumel.

The website quotes the price as $49.00 without transportation - so if you booked online and got the 5% how did you get to the park? It shows $75.00 for transportation, tour and admission.

If the price is $56.00 through Carnival I may opt for it as it would be nice to be able to come and go as we please.

I agree that we should respect the park and use the ecology friendly sunscreen. It's only right.

I was just hoping to save a little money by buying my own ahead of time.

With the savings of not paying for DD we can take a cab for less. Even if we paid for her a cab would be cheaper for us because we are paying the extra on three people to Carnival but the real answer was the savings of one child ticket at over $29.

Does the Celebration dock at Playadelcarmen or Cozumel for this excursion? If in Cozumel you have to take that darn water taxi back and forth and it's 45 min. each way(or more if they have to wait to fill it up). If it's Cozumel you won't have much time in the park.
You need at least 4 hours there to enjoy it all and eat lunch.
