We're planning on a Carnival cruise next March, not sure of which ship yet though. My dh and I and our triplets who will be 4 1/2 then, and some family members are going together. Is there a cabin large enough for the 5 of us to be in comfortably? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks...

Certainly the suites can hold more. We did 4 adults once in a regular size and it was crowded but do able. I really think that you do not have a choice with 5 in a cabin with triplets. You have to do it that way. Suite if you can afford it, if not.. it will be crowded but fun. Nancy

We just got back yesturday from Carnival Inspiration
Family of 5 one cabin
2 adult
children ages 9, 7, and 3
we were fine, because we were not in the cabin most of the time except to sleep
The kids loved Camp Carnival and wanted to stay there most of the time.

What type of cabin did you have? Thanks for the good word on the camp, I plan on having them participate in it a lot!

I have to ask. If your planning on sending the kiddies to Camp Carnival "a lot". Why not just leave them with parents or is that not an option?

Liv,
When I say "a lot" I don't mean dropping them off in the morning and picking them up at night. From what I have heard from many people, my kids would love the camp, and why not have them be in an environment with other kids, toys, games activities, etc... for a part of the day? Being a SAHM for triplets is an extremely hard job, and I need some time for me as well! This will be our first vacation in 5 years, and coming from taking yearly trips, it is very hard not to be able to get away. We have had opportunities but would not consider going away without our children, and we think this will be a good type of a trip to take with them. We will also be travelling with my father and his wife, and my brother and my SIL, so we will have other people with us to help out and for us to all spend some time together with the kids.

I understand your comment, but this is why we are going with our kids, and will utilize the camp at times during the trip. I think it will be beneficial for both us and them.

Hi, we just returned in March from the Destiny. We had five in our cabin. Two adults and kids ages 14, 12, and 7. It was a bit crowded at times but we soon adjusted. We weren't in the room much anyway. The tricky part was dressing for dinner but even that worked out fine. My sister's family also had five in their room--two adults and kids ages 10, 8, and 4.
We went with our entire extended family and my sisters and brothers were stunned at how well their kids loved Camp Carnival. My 7 year old did not love it but she was an exception because she had her same aged cousin and older cousins to buddy around with. My nieces who were 5 and 4, my nephew who was 3, and another nephew who was 7 loved going to camp though. They begged to go each day! Too funny!
Have a great time. I wish we could go again soon!

I've been in a 6E (family stateroom with floor to ceiling windows)on the Triumph. It is quite roomy! Also very close to the Childrens Playroom and one flight down to the mainpool deck. The windows give it a more open and roomy feeling.

Carnival Legend only has quad rooms. We were able to get our family of 5 on by putting one of our kids in a room with our friends traveling with us. When it comes time to sleep we will just move him in with us into our king bed or see if we can get a roll away put in. Also, doing this got the third, fourth and now fifth person at the cheaper rate.

I agree with ckpan. There are five of us too and we booked one of the kids with grandma and grandpa and she sometimes slept with them but we had her in our room too. And our family of 5 is me , hubby, 16 y-o who is 6'2", daughter 14 and 12 y-o son. We just put blankets on the floor etc. We were not ready to kill each other by the end of the cruise so there was room for all of us. On Conquest even if you get a suite I don't think you can put 5 in there (By carnival rules for booking)

On many of the ships the Catagory 6 cabins are larger than the 4 and the balcony cabins are the same as the 6 including the baloncy space, so your best shot spacewise is usually the cat. 6. Good luck! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I agree that a category 6 cabin may be the answer for a family of five. We got upgraded to a balcony which was a welcome surprise for us. My sister's family, however, did fine with their family of five in an oceanview room. We had no problem booking our rooms. Apparently it was not a problem to have five in a room on the Destiny. We didn't have to book kids with other relatives.

halos,
Thanks for the great comments, it means a lot! I can't wait to go, although I am so nervous at the same time. I get very motion sick and am terrified about feeling the boat rock! But, I'll take the cruise over staying at home, and stock up on plenty of seasick prevention drugs!

I worried about that too. Have you been on a cruise yet? Ours in March was our first. We purposely chose one of the largest ships (The Destiny) partly because of its size. I have one brother who was sure he was going to be sick all the time. Originally his room was low in the ship and in the center to avoid feeling movement. Then our ta upgraded us to balconies and windows (depending on what we originally purchased). My brother ended up high in the ship on the Spa Deck (level 10)! He still never had a problem because of the size of the Destiny. By the way, my sister/brother-in-law and her three kids ended up on the same floor as Camp Carnival (Level 10-Spa deck). That sure was convenient for them. I wonder if you can request that? Pick a large ship and I bet your motion sickness will be reduced. Also, the Destiny has a very nice route in the southern Caribbean. In March the weather is sure to be good, possibly avoiding rough waters. We also liked that it had four ports which enabled us to be off the ship more than on. Another plus for those who are affected by motion sickness. Have fun planning!

JBMomto3,
We are also from NJ!
We are sailing on the Miracle in July from NY and they have no cabins for 5. We had to get 2 next to each other ...couldn't even get connecting as those rooms are only for 2 each.

Good Luck..and FYI..that's what Camp Carnival is there for..to give the moms (and dads) a break. Don't feel guilty for using it!

Spartanfan,
Yes, I've heard that the bigger the boat, the less motion you will feel. I hope that's true and that we can go on the biggest ship possible! Thanks...

pgmrdev,
Hopefully we can be next to my family who is also travelling with us. BTW, my kids are very well behaved now at 3 1/2 so I'm hoping that next year at 4 1/2 they'll be even better. (knock on wood!) From what I've heard from some people and read on these boards, some might wish to be next to my kids rather than next to loud, partying people who are up till all hours of the night. I plan on being in the cabin as little as possible. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

green eyed lady,
Hey, Jersey girl, have a great cruise! Yes, I know that the kids will love the camp, I've only heard mostly good things about it, and you're right, that's what it's there for! Thanks...

jbmomto3 - keep in mind as some other posters have mentioned - when making reservations or deciding on which ship some of the Carnival ships (Spirit class I believe) won't allow you to have 5 in a cabin. I know the fantasy class ships do and I think the Triumph/Victory, etc. do -- just not sure of which ones don't. You just might want to check with Carnival about this before you get your heart set on 1 ship and then find out it's one of the ones that doesn't allow 5. Enjoy your cruise whatever you decide! I get very sick in small vessels but have never had a problem on any of the Carnival ships and luckily have never even needed the sea sickness pills. Good Luck - hopefully you won't need any either.

Bab and everyone,
Thanks for all of the advice on 5 in a room. I am so much more prepared now than I was before! We're not going till next March so we still have some time to book, but now I know what to look for. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
