We were offered an upgrade - for a price - to a verandah cabin. I looked them up in a HAL brochure and see that the vernadah deck is over the restaruant, casino, lounges etc. Is there a lot of noise coming up through the deck from these areas? Also noise down from the Lido deck? The music is pretty loud for the shows so I would think you could hear it in the cabins above. when we were on the Dolphin deck we could actually hear some of the crew singing from the deck below.

If they had offered a free upgrade I would have taken it and taken a chance on noise but for a price I would like to know what to expect.

Juanita....
I'm not sure about your specific situation or which ship you're talking about, but a Verandah cabin does not mean it's necessarily on the Verandah Deck. On the Vista Class ships there are VA, VB, VC, thru VF and they are on many different decks. I would take a Verandah any day over not having one. Something about your own personal balcony to drink your coffee in the morning or wine in the evening. So before you give up on this, find out exactly what you're being offered.

If you are talking about an S ship, we always stay in the B veranda's. Midship. We have been over the casino and had minimal to no noise really. Very peaceful. We have been in a veranda under the lido and had no problems also.. If your upgrade is reasonable, I would definitely go for it..

This is the Volendam - thanks, that is what I wanted to know.
We had friends who had a room under the show lounge and she said that the noise was pretty loud so I wondered about noise in other areas.
Sounds as though it would be worth considering.

Absolutely positively take the upgrade

Volendam is for the most part the exact same layout as the Statendam class ships .. it's just larger (about 5,500 - 6,000 tons) and has a center stair case

you won't have any problem with noise from Lido since you'll probably be one down from the full suite deck ..

never heard of anyone complain about noise "coming up" from a lower deck to bother them

Volendam is a sister to Zaandam but IMO much prettier ..

beautiful ship

enjoy:D

If it is over the dining room in the Volendam you can expect to hear the PA system when in use. Normally this entails instructions to the staff before the dining room opens but will also include rehersals and the actual baked Alaska parades (twice). It may also include a piano at 2AM.

They will reduce the noise if you call the front desk and ask for relief.

Great cabins otherwise.

If the cabin is over any of the lounges with music you may hear it. Once on the Amsterdam (same layout) there were many complaints that the sound from the Piano Lounge was keeping a party up. (They may have had an agenda. )
If the cabin is over the Explorations Cafe area it's golden! :)
