Right now a flight (that I still need to book) has gone up since the weekend. Will they come back down or should I bite the bullet now and pay the extra in case they go up more.

This is on all the different web sites for airline tickets.

In checking flights to L.A. last week, I found ALL airline prices outrageously high right now. Also - most times I check, they are a little lower if you stay over a Sat. night.

I second that - I am amazed at how much they are asking for flights right now. However, depending on who you talk to, prices are generally SUPPOSED to be cheaper during the week rather than on weekends which is when most people do their planning.
I can usually find a good deal, and I havent been able to find anything. Luckily, I have until October.
If you dont have that long, try Qixo.com - I have, in the past been able to find good prices there. And there is of course Priceline if your flight times are negotiable. Also, you can try some of the low-cost carriers individual websites like Frontier, Jet Blue and Southwest.

Good luck!

Did you check directly with some airlines? I have not booked my flight yet either, I guess I have wishful thinking :-)
BUT... I have been watching each day. When I compared prices on Expedia, Hotwire, travelocity, and Priceline going to the airline was cheaper.
HEY! I just noticed you were from Dayton -- me too. Not sure which cruise you are taking, but we are on Triumph 5/22, and Nwa.com (northwest) has been the best prices and no booking fee!

I believe, in general, prices for specific flights only go up. They have x number of seats at one price, another y number seats at another price, etc. When the allocated number of seats at the lowest price are sold, up it goes to the next tier.
I've got a friend that just couple weeks ago had one seat at a low price and the other 3 seats nearly $200 EACH higher, and she made the reservation at the same time. Just got the last of the cheap seats.
Usually the only exception to this will be if some airline starts a price war, or last minute if there are an unusual amount of unsold seats on that particular flight.
Best advice, book as early as possible. Saturdays/Weds/Thursdays are usually a little cheaper, stay over Sat nite if possible, direct airline websites usually have the lowest prices. These are generalities, not true in every case.

I'm checking prices for New Orleans on Oct 29th. They have gone from $298 to $777 and back down to $347. Still going to wait until the summer/fall sales come out.

I expect with the continuing rises in the price of fuel, that ticket prices can only go up! I had one non-stop flight at the time I wanted from Portland to San Diego in October and I bit the bullet two days ago and booked it.

The airline cyber-special rates are usually posted on week-ends.

Have you checked them? Each airline posts their own so you won't necessarily find them on Orbitz or Expedia.

Check for pricing continuously and at different times of the day. If you find a price that you like do not refresh your screen. It could be gone in an instant. Airfares are constantly changing and it can be a lot like the stock market at times.

I agree with carnivalcruisejunkie. The prices do change alot. Last month I booked Columbus, Ohio to Orlando for a Sept. cruise. The price was $278pp. I check every day. The price dropped about two weeks ago to $218pp. I called Delta and they issued vouchers for the difference for both of us. Last Monday at 5:30 a.m. before leaving for work the price dropped again to $147. Another voucher for $70 dollars each! However, when I came home that night and checked again, the price had gone back up to $218. We have gotten $171 per person in vouchers from Delta! Of course we will be using that for airfare on our next cruise! Keep watching the prices as they change often!
