I keep reading that cruisers bring a over the door shoe hanger, today I saw one in the dollar store. What type on things do you put in it? Does it go on the bathroom door or cabin door? Can you use one or two of them. You can tell that I am a first time cruiser. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

I bought one in the dollar store and hung it in the closet to keep lots of odds and ends handy without cluttering the room. I put our sunscreen in it, our sunglasses, by book for the pool, etc. Whatever you need a place for, it comes in handy.

I put mine on the bathroom door on the outside (so if someone is using the bathroom I can still get to my stuff). Some of the things I put in it are...camera, makeup, deodorant, lanyards when we are not using them, sun lotion, hairbrush, sunglasses etc. It is just handy for all the little things you use regularly that you don't want cluttering up the little counter space that you have.

I've never understood the reason for this hanger. My cabins (CCL and other lines) have always had more than ample space in the bathroom and/or bedroom drawers and closets to store all my items. Perhaps cruisers with more than two to a cabin use them when space might be limited? http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Enjoy your first cruise, kapcruiser!!

I have to agree, I didn't find the shoe hanger useful. We had more than enough room. Maybe back in the "good ole days" . . .

Even with 4 in the cabin (2 adults 2 kids) we had more than enough space without a shoe hanger. We do use an unfolding toiletries bag with a hook, though, that frees up counter space.

I hang mine on my bedroom door about a month out and throw stuff in it as I think of it. Then when it is time to go I just roll it up and pack it. Then I hang it on the bathroom door in the room.

I bought one and never used it. There are only two of us to a cabin though, so maybe it would be useful if you had 3 or more in a cabin.

I only use an OTD shoe holder when we're cruising with the kids, in which case it is so helpful. I put the things listed above in it as well as sippy cups, wipes, etc. I can't imagine traveling without it when the kids are along. With the kids along, there just isn't enough room to put everything without just stacking it on a shelf and having everything get knocked over repeatedly.

On those few occasions when DH and I travel without them, I have never needed one. There has always been ample space elsewhere in the cabin for just the two of us.

With my daughter and I sharing the same cabin last year, the shoe hanger was a godsend for all our lotions and potions. Two women? One vanity? I don't think so! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I love having my toiletries easily available. Not to mention my digital camera, suntan lotions, regular lotions, cologne, paperback, etc.I also put my matching costume jewelry sets together in the pockets(earrings, bracelet, and necklace)Don't want to dig around for them after I dress for the evening. Also have one for my shoes in the closet. I am just like that, whether there are 2 of us, or I am alone.

Sea Turtle, you must not travel with a 16 y/o girl!! Mine seems to need more products than Estee Lauder, God bless, even invented. And she happens to be beautiful before she starts with the make up. We put all kinds of stuff in ours as well and pack it full before leaving home so it's already set up when we get on board.
