We are sailing on the Zaandam on September 22nd and have a guarantee cabin. Just curious if others are still waiting on their stateroom assignments?
Thanks, so much!

We will be on the Veendam September 24th on a 4 day repositioning cruise and also do not have cabin assignment. Still showing GUAR. It could take up till the week we leave.

We are set to sail on September 13th on the Volendam, and our booking still shows up as "GUAR" as well.......... our TA said it is often decided the week before the cruise or as close as a couple of days before! Keeping our fingers crossed for the "upgrade fairy" :)

San Diego, I have had a number of clients this summer that did not get their assignment until they got to the pier. Almost all of them were quite pleased with the upgrades that they got. Once in a while, we do get some that aren't upgraded but this summer has been a good one.
I heard something once from a cruiseline, and I truly don't know if this is true or if it was just the opinion of the reservations agent. The agent told me that often times the very best upgrades are the ones that are assigned at the last minute.
Last spring, I had the sweetest couple going on an anniversary cruise. They were a nervous wreck because they didn't have a cabin assignment as of the day before the cruise. I kept assuring them that it would be ok and that, no, they wouldn't be thrown off the ship or forced to sleep in crew quarters. I even called the cruiseline the morning of their cruise and they still wouldn't give out the cabin assignment.
My clients called me back after the cruise and were thrilled to report that they were upgraded from an obstructed view to a suite. They got the good news at the pier. Yes, that's a rarity but it's still really awesome when it happens to someone that you've worked with! Of course, sailing in the suite pretty much ruined them for sailing any other way in the future.

Checked the Holland America website again today and see that we have been assigned our cabin on the Volendam, sailing September 13 to Alaska ..... We are thrilled because the "upgrade fairy" indeed came through for us! Yes, we are first time HAL cruisers, so we are not completely sure just WHY we were moved from an inside to an outside cabin-- but are feeling quite lucky just now! :p Have you received your cabin assignment yet, seedaz?

Mine was assigned the day before sailing, only because I called at 6:30 p.m. otherwise, we would have found out at the pier.

I haven't gotten my cabin assignment for this cruise yet Rick and neither has my Mom. I don't know how you got yours two days ago!!! I hope you got a cabin you like.

We sailed on the Zuiderdam on the 26th August and up to the time we arrived at the pier we did not have our cabin #.
This was given by the porters desk and imagine our surprise when we boarded and found we had been upgraded to a Delux Superior #6156 at the back.

We just got our cabin assignment for the 9/17 Westerdam to Alaska
AND
We got an upgrade to an aft SC suite. This is our first visit from the upgrade fairy and we're very pleased. We've never been on a Vista ship, or to Alaska, so this is our first aft suite on the wake with the large veranda. I'm so excited. We have never tried a guarantee before and it did work for our benefit. Praise the Lord!

GN, you are so very lucky:) You are going to love that corner aft. After having been in 5187 two times now and loving it, we felt strange being mid-ship on the Ryndam. Congratulations on that fantastic Upgrade. I cannot think of a better way to see Alaska:cool:

Thanks for your good wishes Lisa,
Is there anything you call tell me about how 5186 differs from the SA suites, layout, how much covering on veranda, does it have a dressing room and separate shower stall?
And might you have any pictures of the veranda?
We are so excited, we've always wanted to be on the wake.

GN, 5186 is the opposite corner of my favorite 5187. It is the largest sq ft of inside space of of the corner aft suites. It also has an extremely large balcony. While the cabin it self is ever so slight smaller than a mid-ship S Suite the lay out is so much better in my opinion. Yes, it has the seperate dressing area and a seperate shower and tub. While the balcony is huge it really does not have much for cover. But I never found that I felt like it was not private. You will see once you are out there. I do not have it with me here at work but on my computer at home I know I have a great shot of the aft of the Westerdam. When we were on the Ryndam in Alaska both ships were in Ketchikan and we were aft to aft. I will post it later to night.
The other thing I really like that is different than the mid-ship S Suite that is only on the 4th and 5 th floor corner afts is that the second set of closets are over by the bed not when you first enter the room. They are mirrored and there is a lot of space between the closet and bed bed and almost makes for a second dressing area. We really found we liked this a lot. We can both be getting ready for Formal night and not getting in each others way. Same getting dressed in the morning. Once you have this cabin you will be spoiled.:)

We are also on the Zaandam 9/22/06 cruise. I just checked, and we don't have a cabin assignment yet. This certainly gives us something to look forward to, wondering and waiting for the best. We have done 10 cruises together, with one upgrade from inside to outside and one outside guar to a balcony. 20% upgrade success rate isn't too bad.:)

Thank you so very much Lisa, My DH and I had already checked out your pix from your Oosterdam albums on webshots. It was a real treat to have the pix available when we were at the height of our upgrade high.
We'll have a drink in your honor when we hit the Westerdam OB for the first time. Too bad we can't buy you one and share the experience with you.
Cheers,
GN

 Just checked with Holland America's website and we finally have our stateroom on the Veendam sailing September 17 to Alaska. I had originally booked BC balcony guarantee and we have been, I don't know if this is an upgrade or not to A059 on the Promenade Deck. We are right under the Lido restaurant, is this going to be a nightmare with all the noise of chairs, running, walking etc. from dawn to midnight ? Has anybody else had a room like this? I dont know if I should be happy or bring plenty of earplugs !!!

There are no cabins on the Promenade Deck on the Veendam. The deck under the Lido is the Navigation Deck. Is this where your cabin is located?
If so, then it kind of depends on what part of the Lido your cabin is under---the buffet, or the pool areas. If it's the buffet, then you have carpeting that will act as a noice barrier. If it's the pool area then there will be times that you will be able to hear the chairs being moved. It shouldn't last too long, though.

You are right it is the Navigation deck, and we are under the Lido restaurant, so hopefully with the carpet as a sound barrier we should be ok, thanks !
