I asked my TA to call re one day sale and see if the price had dropped or if she could us an upgrade. I had a OV guarantee and she got me upgraded to a 6E!! My sis had a IS guarantee and has been upgraded to a 4E.

Both upgrades came with an assigned cabin. Is that good or bad? Should we ask to have a guarantee in that catgeory or just leave it for now? Is this the end of upgrades if we now have an assigned cabin?

Sailing isn't till March 19, 2005 on the Triumph.

Thanks for any advice!

I think you did fine...That will be a busy week(Spring break time). I just returned from a cruise and had a IS guarantee and was upgraded tp a 4E. My other guarantee was a balcony and I was upgraded to a 9.

Usually when they offer the upgrade they make you select a cabin (as you did) - you can not do a guarantee on an upgrade.

Same thing happened to us - we were a balcony guarantee for the Legend in October. I called my TA to inquire about the sale on Tuesday. My instructions were to get us an assigned cabin as high up as possible - adjoining as my parents are sailing with us. Imagine my surprise when she called me back to tell me we had 8I extended balconies adjoining! I am sooooooooo excited as this is the first time my parents will be cruising - we have to drive them from Maine to NY as Dad won't fly, but at this juncture - who cares - it will be the adventure of a lifetime. Just bought a new CD Video camera to "capture" the moments. This is truly a dream come true. I know my parents will be awestruck.

Cruisemagic...I think it's awesome!
Moxie...I'll be driving from Maine (Scarborough) to NY for the Miracle in June!
We drive back and forth to PA a couple times a year so driving to NY will seem like a breeze...until we get INTO the City, I guess!!

Actually, that's not quite correct. If you were on an upgrade to being with, you can take an assigned cabin on a GTY but still stay on the GTY. But, you cannot be upgraded further without consent.

Although the 8I's are the highest category balcony (8's) cabin on the Spirit Clas ships, they are least selected. If you notice, many cruises use the upgrade from the 8A to the 8I to entice new bookings. Why? Take a look where most of the 8I's are on Spirit Class ships. Right below the pool areas, Lido restaurants, chair areas, etc. There is a real debate over the amount of noise from this below. I too have been "upgraded" from 8A GTY to assigned 8I. But I've let it be know, and have continued to be considered a GTY, that I would prefer a further upgrade. I always travel with ear plugs anyway ......
