Both of these places are on my list of must sees. Does anyone know if there is a tour that combines both, or if both can be done on the one day in port?

I don't know the answer with certainty, but as someone who has spent time on the Amalfi Coast as well as Naples/Pompeii, my personal opinion is that it would be a stretch to visit them both on the same day. I spent about 5 hours at Pompeii (had a train to catch) and wished I had had more time -- I only saw about 1/3 to 1/2 of what I wanted to see. Bona fortuna!

It's way too much for one day. You should choose one or the other. I would select Pompeii. Capri is pretty but very, very touristy. The Amalfi coast itself has Capri beat.

Do lobby the tour or cruise companies for an itinerary where you can spend a day at Pompeii, a day at Sorrento, and an additional day at Capri. They are all places worthy of at least 6 hours or more each. Maybe you will have to design your own pre-cruise or post-cruise adventure.

One or the other,
Capri is my choice, 2 visits...would go again.
Take the high speed ferry.
Forget the Blue Grotto side trip.
Bring your American Express Card!
Enjoy

Dear Marian,

It all depends -- do you like magnificent ruins? If not, go to Capri. We love ruins and have seen many around the World. We went to Capri and, I guess because we're 26 miles from Catalina, it was a big disappointment. You can't do both the same day!!!!!!

Just another opinion.
