There are other means to getting to Port Canaveral than the bus transportation provided by the cruise lines. We have used and found that the internet has many companies who will transfer you to the Port faster and cheaper than the charge by the cruise lines. If you are a family of 4 or more you will definitely find it cheaper going over by a private car service.
When you land a driver will meet you on the baggage floor. When you get your bags the driver will get you to the vehicle and you will be in the Port an hour later. The ride will be comfortable and without congestion as in the bus transportation. No waiting involved. The driver will also be there to pick you up and take you back to MCO when you leave the ship. Look into this.

This would be the only way to figure it out. You pay the cruise lines approx. $50.00 roundtrip, it may be more, for each person in your party to ride a bus to the port. Of course you wait and leave when the bus is full, you head to the port. You can find round trip transportation for $180.00 to $230.00 for up to 10 passengers. It is not that cheap for two or three passengers, but the luxury of leaving MCO when you get your bags and arriving in the Port in 45 minutes in a SUV or luxury van, before the busses start arriving could be worth the difference. When you leave the ship you find your car service and you are headed back to MCO. It is just that easy. If you are doing the Disney Cruise Line you don't even have to worry about luggage, They ship it over there for you. I am not to sure on that, but it is worth it to check.

Another detail that many find advantageous is that the car services will make a stop at a grocery store so that you can pick up some beverages to take aboard.
I've used both Tiffany Towncar and Happy Limo to get around central Florida and I've found both to be problem-free. One was even able to change the pick-up hotel after midnight when I discovered that I directed them to the wrong hotel. (Whoda thought that there would be two Marriots in the area?)
Others have commented that they wait on the Disney motorcoach until it is full before departing for the port. I've used this service but I don't remember waiting for more than 5 minutes. Still, when you've got a big wonderful ship and a magical vacation ahead, 5 minutes seems like a long time.

If you book your air to arrive the day of the cruise, strongly consider the cruiseline transfers. They are more likely to "push" things to the limit to let you on the ship if your flight is late or something goes wrong, if you have their transfers. We had this issue once. Flight arriving day of - flights were late, but we had the cruiseline transfers, so they knew where we were. We were still allowed on the ship, even though we were just a little late. I'm not so sure they would have held the ship for us if we didn't have their transfers, and if their drivers weren't in contact with them. Last ones on the ship - we even missed the fire muster drill.
As for Disney, considering you can check your bags at the start of your flight, and never have to deal with them again until you reach the ship if you book their transfers, why not? No tipping anyone for handling your bags at the airport or in the transfer vehicle (you need to add that cost to things if you do your own transfer). Plus you start the "Disney" spirit right away with their bus and movie.
Under many circumstances I'm all for doing things more independently (I do not book my tours through the cruiselines, etc), but for transfers, unless you have a large group (6 or more), especially on Disney - I'd just take their transfers for the hassle-free experience. You've forked out big bucks for your cruise to have the best - why not start it right away with the transfers?
