I'm wondering how much these usually cost. I am trying to budget enough for my cruise. Thank you! Love, Julia

An 8 x 10 formal portrait is $20.00. You have to purchase this size before you can purchase different sizes. Carnival is great about giving a copyright release so you can have copies made at Wal-mart etc.
On formal night be sure to hit ALL the photographers. There is NO cost to have your photo taken and they'll be displayed the following day.
They also have 3 x 5 candids that they take periodically thru-out the cruise.
Your welcome aboard photo is a 5 x 7. Sorry don't know these prices as our pics weren't good.
Hope this helps!

I was able to make regular size pictures for my scrapbook, plus extra for family members. Have fun and i would take as many pictures that you would like, since it doesn't cost anything.

I usually buy only the 5x7 photo they take as you are embarking, because I use it as the title page for my cruise scrapbook. It was $7 in September. I don't even have a formal night photo done, as it's just 'me'. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
I take so many photos aboard ship and on the islands that I just don't feel the need to spend the extra $$ for the ship's photos.
There's always some nice fellow passengers who are happy to take my pic if I ask. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Buying a lot of ship's photos can REALLY run up your S&S bill! Last cruise, one of my tablemates said they spent over $500. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

My last cruise in Jan on the Triumph the embarkation photos were 8x10. I was really disappointed because there was no need for it to be so big (it was just so they could charge more $$$). Basically it was a 5x7 picture with a border around it to make it up to 8x10.
As far as posing for all the formal photos, it has its good and bad points. There is no charge so why not? However, if you end up liking a lot of the pictures it would cost you a fortune! If you want to only buy a couple and they are all good it is hard to decide which to buy!! My DH and I just choose the backgrounds we like and pose for those only.

If you find an 8X10 and purchase it, you can also have wallets printed for around $5.00 for 4 (if my memory serves me correctly) We did this and loved being able to hand our family members a picture when we got back. I carry several different ones in my wallet.
Just so you know, the prices don't change and they don't offer specials on these. I just wish they could find a better way to display the pictures! I hate having to stand there searching through 1000's of pictures for ours!

It is hard to look good for an embarkation photo after standing in line for who knows how long to board. This was especially true in the hot sun in San Juan!

There are two different prices for the 8x10 pictures they print up.
The first is 20.00. These are the pics that you pose for formally with the photographer. The others are 12.00. These are one's that are printed up to 8x10, but are taken casually, like in front of the ship at port, at dinner, etc.
Make sure you take advantage of the wonderful photographers.... they do a terrific job, and some pics are hard to pass up! We were able to gather all our pics last year, and keep them in one place, then decide the last day. We bought 7 all together.. yikes!

I agree with the above poster.
Take advantage of the photos. It's great to have the candid ones!
They truly do a nice job and they are definitely worth the money.

Do have your picture taken often. The picture I usually get (in front of the staircase) didn't come out as nice, the contrast was off. We were talked into stopping for another, and I was glad we did. Those pictures were much better.

JDFloyd....
You mentioned posing for all the photographers...on formal night, aren't there just the ones who come to your table? Where are any others? I find if they take 10, maybe I'll look good in one!

There are photographers set up in different areas with different back-drops for posed photos.
Lines tend to form at the more popular backdrops...like the staircase one, which is gorgeous. We didn't wait for in line that one, I wish we had. We had one taken with a backdrop that made it look as if we were on the ship's deck with the sun setting behind us. Very pretty.
I love my cruise photos.

The photographers are usually around the atruim area. Go early to avoid the lines.
FYI-the staircase background is the staircase from the Titanic!
On our last cruise, Paradise, they even had a photographer set up between the atrium glass elevators.

They set up all along the promenade, as well as in the atrium lobby. And it's not just formal night anymore, they seem to always be out there in the evenings. In fact, they're out there well into the night on the last evening. The last batch of pics is usually available in the photo gallery between 11-12 on the last night. Complete chaos!
Some of the backdrops are quite elegant, others are absolutely cheesy. There are also some that are perfect for family or "just kids" shots.
The "pirate" and "showgirl" candids as you leave the dining room have GOT to go though.

Hi all, does anyone know if they can or do put the pictures on disks. I don't remember if they did that on past cruises or not. Thanks for the help.

Just got home from a cruise. $20 for the 8 x 10--about $8 for a 5 x 7. We always prefer the informal pictures over the formal ones. Let them take your picture whenever they are available (when you get off at ports, with the Carnival guys/girls who dress up in a country/port motif, etc...). They only charge you for the ones you buy and it is easy to get prints made when you return home. It will surprise you which ones turn out the best. Our favorite picture was one where we were just roaming around the ship and the photographer convinced us to get one done. We are in shorts, a cami, and polo, but it turned out great. HAVE FUN!:D

On the Conquest in December the 8x10 cost was $21.95. The embarkation photo was printed in an 8x10 but all other port photos where a smaller size (not sure on the size) they were either $7.95 or $8.95.
