View Full Version : What is your average weight gain on a cruise?

What do you think the average weight gain is on a cruise? One my first and second cruise I actually came back 5 pounds lighter, I guess all of the walking?
The last one I gained 5 -- probably all of the drinks of the day :-)

CruiseTravel mag had a survey awhile back. Seems like the 'average' is 5 lbs. per 7-day cruise.
I usually gain a couple of pounds, but last cruise, didn't gain any. I did a little more walking than usual, tho, so that's probably why. I'm truly surprised that I don't gain at least 10! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

4 lbs for me also and we did TONS of walking. So much so that we had to do the 69 foot massage thing once or twice, our feet were so sore but we didn't want to just hang out at the cabin the whole time. I can't imagine how much I would have gained if we just sat in the cabin all the time.

I gained 15 pounds (lost 7 before going so, really 8) on my last 5 day cruise with my daughter. I used the stairs all the time and walked as much as I could. I gained 7 or 8 on the last three 7 day cruises. Most was water as I'd be back to normal in a week or two.

Between two days in Tampa ahead of time and 7 days on the Inspiration I came back 11 pounds heavier. I went the first six days without going near the gym, and then went twice on the last full day. Too little, too late. But 7 days after returning I was back to where I started.
For the next cruise I plan on losing about 5 pounds before embarkation and going to the gym every other day. Hoping to come back with just the five pounds back on (but if I don't, who cares)?

Just back from my 4/24 Glory cruise. Weighed in today. Officially I gained 4 pounds. That includes 2 days pre-cruise, 7 days cruise, and one day back eating like crazy. I am hoping 4 will be the total, but it really hasn't all had time to settle yet. I lost 7 before I went so I am still down, but would like to take off a couple of what I picked back up.

Dieting before a cruise is not necessarily a good idea. Your stomach shrinks and you will feel terribly uncomfortable after indulging in the gastronomical delights aboard ship.
Best to start overeating before you leave, so that your stomach s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-s and you have room for all the good stuff. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

I have dieted all my life and one day because I became so scale obsessed (weighing in every day upon waking, after every meal, and then after each time I peed, for God's sake) that I decided the scale must go.
So...since I don't know the actual 'poundage', I just go by how my clothes fit.
If I can still zip my jeans (THE ONES I LEFT AT HOME BECAUSE I DON'T BRING JEANS ON A CRUISE) after I get home, then I don't fret too much.

You are all scaring me!
I am 71 lbs lighter than last years cruise.. so if I gain 5lbs or so, It will be fine!
I will just have to go right back on my program.
The one thing this year, though.. is that I am still going to be very careful with what I eat. Sure I am going to try a few deserts etc. But for drinks I will just have water... and no rolls with dinner!
