After patiently waiting since we booked this repositioning cruise on the Veendam last August 2005, just tonight I pulled up the imigration form (HAL website had been down all day) and to my surprise it no longer said GUAR it actually had a number. Now I know I said that I really did not care where the cabin was because there really was not a bad S Suite but I was wrong. Our cabin number is 002. I really would have rather been more mid ship, this looks to be really forward and I suspect that we will feel a lot of motion:o Is there a chance it could change again? Has anyone ever had this suite? Did you notice more motion?
Darn, why could they not have given me just one number less and have 001:D

Congrats on getting your cabin number, Lisa.
Yes, it's possible it may still change - on our Veendam repo cruise, we were originally assigned cabin 181, before being reassigned to suite 007.
I don't know how much motion you'll feel - last year when I did this cruise, the seas were remarkably calm for most of the trip, but then again, my cabin on that cruise was down on A-Deck. Still, I think you should be ok!

I've been further forward---and in pretty rough seas, too. Just on Lower Promenade. I'd take your spot in a minute! Take another look---isn't it over the salon/spa area? If so, then it's sure to be quiet at night.
This is sure to be a lovely little time away for you. Relax and enjoy.

Lisa: Congratulations you lucky ducks! Yes, you probably will feel a lot of the motion there it is our favorite place; but then we like really rough seas.

Ruth, I am sure you would take my spot, although it might surprise Tom just a bit;) You are right about the location, that is good it should be nice and quiet.

I have been in cabin 002 and it is a wonderful cabin....very quiet, and I am sure you will be very happy. I have also been in cabin 001 and while it was a fabulous cabin ( I loved the full refrig and microwave in the galley area as well as the HUGE master bath and closet) there was a terrible sewage odor in the master bathroom much of the time. It was many years ago, and I am sure it has been fixed by now, but back to the subject of 002, you will LOVE it!

Trisha, Thanks, actually we like the corner afts on the Vista class and we actually have been that far forward before. Back in 2003 we booked a very last minute cruise the day after Christmas just a week in advance. The very last cabin available was the most forward cabin on the port side. The cabin even narrowed in it was truly in the bow. This cabin was so small that to sleep Tom had to crawl over me to get in bed:D Plus one person had to stay in bed or be in the bather room to move around the cabin. We actually had a lot of fun and a lot of laughs.

Thanks:) It will be a bit different for us, in all our HAL cruises we have always been on the Starboard side the only time on the port side ever was that last minute cruise on RCL Monarch. We better be careful on how much champagne we drink or we may get very confused:eek: :D

Lisa,
I'm sure you'll have a great cruise. It's always nice to see a cabin # instead of GUAR isn't it? Second week back at school--now I need a cruise!!!!! (But I have a bit of a wait...)

Lisa,
I have a great idea. Why don't we ask HAL if you can have 001, and then they can give me your 002. I am happy to do that swap even though our verandah cabin is in the centre of the ship!

Lucky you!
002 is great location for going to Ocean Bar, going to burger bar, going to show room, getting to tenders, going to lifeboat drill, working out by walking to navigation pool, getting back to your room after a night of dancing in Crow's Nest but most importantly getting to the gym:D
I really don't think the ride is that much different
the down side is the "distance" to Neptune
see if you can get a tray from Lido .. you don't want to spill your coffee in the morning, drop sandwiches at noon or not be able to load up on shrimp in late afternoon;)
enjoy

Congratulations on getting your suite.
We usually always have a suite on the port side.
Love that side.

I'm jealous. Still no cabin assignment nor cruise docs for our 9/30 Zaandam repositioning. We booked a guarantee Cat A verandah but keeping fingers crossed for an S suite. Though will be happy no matter what.
I called last week about our cruise docs and evidently they disappeared between Holland America offices and our house. They tried to look up he tracking number in the system and found nothing other than that tracking number didn't exist. All sounds strange to me so I can't help but wonder if they actually were mailed. Oh well, I know we're still booked as I see it on the HAL site.

We'll be on that cruise too, we are taking the NCL Sun from Seattle to Vancouver, then the Veendam back. Just checked, and no room assignment yet:(

We're doing the Dawn up and the Veendam back and our room assignment showed up this afternoon. It's nice to know where we'll be now!

Thanks so much:) I will then think of you when we cruise in 002. We are now looking forward to trying this cabin. Who knows we may be converted to booking Port side instead of Starboard:D

This is our favorite suite. We have had S002 on the Ryndam and the Statendam and loved it both times. Close to the stairs, no noise, the beauty shop is above you. Not much motion that I recall. We book very early to ensure we get this suite. I consider you very lucky - enjoy!!! :o

Got my E-Docs in my email box today, but still haven't gotten my cabin # yet - maybe they'll hold out and give me PS 01 ;-)

Lisa,
Except for our last summer's trip on Maasdam (041) we've always been port-siders and we did get disoriented being starboard. Someone posted earlier that the carpeting is different on each side to help identify P from S. If that's true I've never noticed it.
We were invited to a PS (7001 starboard) dinner on our first transatlantic on the Rotterdam. We were in the English channel heading for Guernsey and ran into a heck of a storm. We were being tossed all over and were rockin and rollin'. When we got back to A6174 (midship port) we noticed an appreciable difference...less motion but still really rocky. We never anchored in Guernsey but went right on to France. Hey, the ship moves, right?
If you swap out your 7002 for the Rotterdam you'll have a penthouse, she has 4 of them.
Have a ball becoming bow people as we plan to learn how to be stern people.Yay! more pictures!
