What is your normal pre/post cruise routine? Do you come in a day or two early, and stay a day or two after? Or do you come in the day of and head home immediately afterwards?
What do you find works best for you?

For us it's all relative.
What port are we leaving from? Are we flying? How much money do we happen to have at that particular time? How much time do we have at that particular time??
This cruise, we are driving to NY on the day the ship leaves...so no pre cruise plans but after the cruise, staying in NY for one overnight before driving home.
When we fly into the port city, we ALWAYS go a day or two ahead of the departure day. It's safer and less stressful that way.

Living in Florida, we choose ports we can drive to. We leave our house early in the morning, drive straight to the port and get on the ship. Coming home, we get off the ship, and drive directly home. We save as many vacation days as possible for more cruises and other vacations! If we had to fly, we would definitely go a day early.

Last year we went in the day before to be sure we GOT there. For the Sensation in October, we'll fly into NOLA either Tuesday or Wednesday to do some sightseeing before. Plus this is the week of our Anniversary and my Birthday, so lots of reasons to celebrate! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

We like to leave a day or two early before the cruise, and stay a few days after the cruise. For some people, their vacation is over when the cruise ends.
In our case, we still have a few days of play left! We'll be in NOLA in Oct/Nov. I've never been there, and am looking forward to seeing the sights.

For me it's not a cruise unless I arrive a couple of days early. Especially when cruising from Miami. Love that city. After the cruise, it's straight home to start planning another one or two.
