Hello..

DW and I have booked the 2/17 cruise on the Zuiderdam.

Being the cheapskate that I am, I wondered if her father's Mariner Society Number would have any use to us.

Unfortunatly, he isn't physically able to travel anymore, but has been on several HAL cruises and recommended HAL to us. He would be tickled to know if his number was transferable.

Thanks!

Mariner numbers are specific to passengers. You can't use your father's unfortunately :(

Can't you use someone's Mariner number, though, if they were traveling in your party? Like let's say parents and a two other couples from amongst their children? Neither of the children ever traveled on HAL, but the parents were Mariners?

Blue skies ...

I think the only way this comes into effect is at booking. For example, they often run "specials" where they offer Mariner Discounts on a particular sailing. Part of this deal is that as a Mariner, you can extend those savings to folks traveling with you, usually up to four other staterooms. Other than that, I am not sure of the exact point in time, but once you are on a HAL ship you become (and are given a Mariner number) a Mariner.

The Mariners number is the method for tracking how many days an individual person has sailed on HAL ships.

Only the days you personally sail can be credited to you. It is a different number for husband and for wife, for each child in the family.

IMO....The best honor to do your father-in-law in regard to sailing HAL is to have a great time and share the stories and photos with him when you return.
