View Full Version : Reasonable Hotel in San Juan

Where does everyone stay in San Juan. Hotel prices are very expensive. Have seen the Howard Johnson, Comfort Inn, Hampton Inn, etc. but know there all vary in price and quality. Just need something for a night with a place to get some dinner (can be fast food) and breakfast the next morning. Have seen reviews on trip advisor for HJO's - noisy and near the airport. I don't mind that...just don't want a dump! But would like to stay someplace for $150 or under. The Whyndam Old San Juan would be wonderful but not at the price of $250 per night. We have used priceline for Miami hotels but see that SJU hotels are becoming harder and harder to get. Thanks!

You may want to consider either Priceline or Hotwire for your hotel. They get some great prices!
Go to www.biddingfun.com (http://www.biddingfun.com) and Amber has the inside info on how to tell what hotel is what on Hotwire.
You can also checkout www.biddingfortravel.com (http://www.biddingfortravel.com) for some great insite on Priceline bidding.
San Juan tends to be high and these are your best two sites for the best price on hotels.

I ended up using priceline for my october cruise and getting the Wyndham Old San Juan 2 nights post cruise for $60 Sunday,Monday . Im staying at the Raddison Ambassador, Friday-$75, then renting a car and driving to the Hyatt Dorado Saturday-$75 pre-cruise. Im sure most wouldnt want to move around that much, but I wanted to stay in different areas to get a better feel of Puerto Rico.
Not sure of your dates, but priceline is a great way to save money. As Vidimom stated use those sites to figure out bidding strategies.

We stayed at the Regency Hotel, right next door to the Condado Plaza. In fact they connect via a bridge outside by the ocean. You can use most of the Condado's anemeties. Regency has it's own pool, continental breakfast, etc. Tons of restaurants up and down Ashford Avenue. We had $160 per night in March for room with two doubles. They have Suites too.
They don't have a website, get on google and search for "regency hotel san juan" and get hundreds of hits. I found it at this one:

We saved $55 a night using Hotwire for a Sept. cruise for a 4star hotel. Happens to be the hotel we have stayed at in the past for more money booking thru the hotel, it is the Carib Hilton.
On another note, does anyone know how far of a walk it would be to the Condonado area for the restaurants? Have a friend going with that can't walk real far, but see it isn't far to cross the bridge to that area.

We walked from the Regency to the opposite end of the bridge, probably 15-20 minute walk. Carib Hilton maybe another 10-15 from there.

What time of year are you going? I'm staying at the Wyndham Old San Juan in a couple of weeks and it was only like $140.00 per night for a double. I just got that through my travel agent locally.

Keep watching the prices. They may drop after the summer. We stayed at the Marriott and it was wonderful! You may want to check prices there. It's within walking distance of plenty of restaurants. We felt very safe there and they even had a casino. We paid around $119.00.

To me, in San Juan, it depends on how long you're going to be there.
If it's overnight before or after the cruise I'd go with the Wyndham. Close to the pier, good hotel, decent rates and easy to get off priceline (verify this at www.biddingforfun.com (http://www.biddingforfun.com))
If its ANY longer of a stay than that I really like the Intercontinental....but then if you've ever stayed in one of their hotels (like in Miami) you're hooked and already know that.
If, like me, you're concerned about security in San Juan, either one is safe.
Happy Cruising

Reasonable price...$150 or under - in SJU it seems like there are not many hotels that are "reasonable" in my opinion.

I stayed at the San Juan Grand and it cost $320/night back in 1997. If I were going again, I would probably stay at El Convento. Very convenient to Old San Juan.
