Hi:

I understand you can pay $160 for a thermal suite for the week. What does this $160 entitle you to? Do you actually get a private room of some sort to use.

Thanks for any help.

The room isn't private, but the admission charge keeps the numbers down. There is a room with six heated tile loungers facing large windows. Along the sides of the room there are aromatherapy showers and small (4 person) turkish spa rooms. You also get access to the thalosotherapy pool. On my Alaska cruise, there were about 8 of us who seemed to be in there quite a bit; you occassionally had to wait for a lounger. I thought it was worth the charge for the peace and quiet, but it is definitely not private.

Hi Arlene Z:

The price is $ 160.00 per couple per week, or $80.00 per person. At least that is what we were charged on Zaandam in late August. This allows unlimited access during the week. If you're looking for a peaceful oasis where your bones can melt, your muscles loosen, your mind drift, your skin be invigorated, and your eyes can feast on the view outside the large windows, then the Thermal Suite is the place for you. :)

Parkey:

The Thermal Suite is open the same hours as the Greenhouse Spa and Salon are open, which on our cruise was 8am to 8 pm.

Thanks,

Sign up with the kind staff over at the Greenhouse Spa. They will give you a tour of the facilities, and you're good to go!

We loved the thermal suite on the Zuiderdam! When we were on, there was a separate charge for the hydrotherapy pool, and frankly we did not enjoy that so much. But to each his own.

Check our Zuiderdam report at
The Halls Zuiderdam Cruise (http://www.elite.net/%7Ethehalls/zuiderdam.html)
for pics of the Thermal Suite and the Hydro pool. To clarify, the Thermal Suite has the warmed lounging couches by the big picture window, the trickling fountain, an aromatherapy room, a dry sauna, a steam room, and a tropical rain shower, which when you push the button turns into an icy mist!

Only the Vista class ships have the Thermal Suite. We really missed it when we were on the Maasdam.:(

Have a GREAT cruise!

Mike,

I LOVE your website, and I visit it regularly. Great photos, and lots of good info! Thanks for putting such a great resource together.:)

We did enjoy the Thermal Suite on Zaandam, a non-Vista ship, just a few weeks ago. It is my understanding that, since the Signature of Excellence upgrades and renovations, all the HAL ships have a Thermal Suite.

( For those who may not know: The Holland America Vista ships are the newest in the fleet, comprising Zuiderdam, Oosterdam, Westerdam, and Noordam.)

The thermal suite was without question the very best investment/upgrade that we made on our HAL cruise. The view is fantastic and it's like a private club. But the very best thing is that access to the thermal suite also gives you the run of the spa, which includes VERY spacious private showers. These showers were so nice that I never once used the shower in our suite. I always went to the thermal spa in the morning and then used the spa facilities to get ready for the day. Sitting in that thermal suite and watching the bow move through the sea is by far the very best memory of our last HAL cruise.

worth the additional cost. the most relaxing part of the cruise. I would take a book up to the thermal spa, lie down on those heated tile lounges, and instantly fall asleep! I can only second what the others who have responded have said...a tranquil oasis.

Love those thermal suites! On port days, DH and I would go up with our books, settle on the "beds" and then relax as we pulled out of port; on sea days, it was our mid-morning relaxing time (around 11 AM when we came in from the pool). The warmth of the tiles eased aching muscles after a port day I can tell you!

Definitely worth the $$ - we added on the thalassotherapy pool and just really didn't use that too much. DH loved the sauna, I loved the steam and we both loved the trickle of water cascading into the fountain in front of the "beds".

You have to pay extra for the thalassotherapy pool, even after paying the $160 per couple for the thermal suite?

Thanks & regards,

Wow, that's great! Honestly, it is a bit hard for me to see how they are making money on them, because they are rarely crowded. But they are becoming very popular!

Watching the scenery in Glacier Bay from the Thermal Suite couches is awesome!

Thanks & regards,

It was included on the Oosterdam in May. You get a security pass card that lets you into both rooms.
