Nothing yet was in either of our mail deliveries today.

We have two normal deliveries daily . Our local postal office is great, the Union workers do a nice job and thru rain sleet snow and hail the mail does get through...

Is the US Postal Service (Quasi Government) going to have Sunday deliveries?

Some USPS Offices near here are finally open nightly to Seven PM (7 PM) at night. But not Sunday and Saturday till only Two PM (2PM).

A few banks are even open on Sundays here for full lobby services ..notary.. accounts.. traveler checks ..currency ...and drive in services too.

We live in the only county (Bergen) of twenty one whish still have the blue laws here.
Yes most everything is closed on Sunday by NJ and County Laws.

But Monday will be here soon enough and hope it (Mariner) is in those deliveries.:D

After three HAL cruises, we've only received one Mariner magazine...ever. (The issue featuring the christening of the Noordam.)
Is there a magic number of cruises before you get magazine on a regular basis?

We have not received Mariner Magazines in a long time and forget trying to remember how long it has been since we received special promotions via email!! DH and I have called HAL, written, emailed and done just about everything to get our email address changed (it happened 6 months + ago) and they still can't get it right. We have lived in this house almost 26 years so it's not because we moved either:confused:

You really need to call HAL and tell them your new address - their web site never picks up anything like that.

Krazy Kruizers
September 10th, 2006, 08:18 AM
When we first cruised HAL, years ago, we did get the magazine quite regularly. Then they stopped coming for a few years and we began to complain. Besides our calling Seattle, our TA also began calling Seattle. About 1 1/2 years ago we finally got back on the list and have been getting them.

I haven't received the new one yet, but almost don't care if I ever do. They aren't at all like they used to be. Once upon a time they had some interesting articles in them---news on what's going on at HAL, short- and long-range plans, that sort of thing.
Lately they seem to be promos, ads, and itineraries. They're just another brochure, it seems.

My Mariner mag arrived today here in Delaware. We hadn't gotten them in ages & then after Noordam's maiden I sent an e-mail to the Mariner Society. I've gotten all 3 so far this year. Of course now it seems like the daily e-mails have dried up. What's with that, I wonder?

Exactly! I got that big Alaska one that unfolded to a HUGE poster-size piece of paper. A couple of days later, an e-mail about it saying I should have gotten it, & then, nothing. That was the last e-mail "special offer."

Maybe the person responsible for sending out the e-mails is on a cruise? :)

What is everyone getting so excited about receiving a commerical magazine???

Just a question - not to infuriate people?
Possibly some people think that they belong to a "special" category - I think not!

HAL is a business and if they can promote a certain cruise or a category - more power to them - its your dollars they are interested in - other than that - nothing else!!!! Mariners are NOT special...other than your bucks!

I think you best leave the cooking to the great HAL Chefs, John. Could be way tooooo costly for you to keep trying your hand in your kitchen.

Hmmm....Tiramisu is sounding VERY good right about now. Better go see if they included that in their cookbook. ;)

Why not ?

We have somtimes gotten special packages on Sunday delivered but the Postal Service office here only has a couple people working for those highly profitable packages that are delivered...

Has anyone here ever written/called Postmaster Potter on that?

If there were more hours and days they would have more revenues too...

The largest profit item is the overnight for the USPS. Stamps are the main business.

Got mine yesterday, read it today. I'm vastly underwhelmed.

Each issue, it seems, has less editorial content and more "catalog" content. I know where the line sales, I know what the ships are!

Not that many years ago, the Mariner Mag had, at most, a couple of half-page or quarter-page ads for cruises. There might be an insert with a listing of 4-6 "Mariner special" sailings. Now it's no different from the brochures the line will send out to anyone who asks.

I'm not sure who HAL thinks they're marketing to with this "junk mail," but it isn't me. I don't need a full page of reasons why HAL is "kid friendly". I'm not interested in the "all singing, all dancing, all juggling" Master Chef Dinner!

I'm beginning to think I'm just not interested in HAL any more.

Maybe we'll look at Oceania for next year...

dakrewser I would have to agree on this point. I was not impressed with this catalog either. If I was looking at HAL for the first time I would probably not book based on their advertising as being sooo kid friendly. I have already reviewed the Master Chef Dinner and really don't care for it at all. I am not yet thinking of changing lines, as I still have a very enjoyable cruise experience, but too many kids splashing around in the adult pool will probably send me packing.

Mine came in on Wednesday, the 20th. That's quite a while after the first report!
Sail, at least it's the same neighborhood as you. Perhaps yours will be around soon. Maybe?

Thanks, KK and Jim.
I've glanced through this one and it's good this time! There's some nice articles---not just the usual promos that it had started to become.

Thanks KK and Jim......

I agree that it's a nice issue and I'm happy we got our copy. I always enjoy reading it. I especially like the piece on Pompeii. Reminds me of a wonderful visit we had there.

How far in advance are you notified of jury duty??

We get a form to fill out. About a month or two later we get called.

Well it says it is for next year, but not when and only that you may be called. This could really put a crip in any plans. I don't have any problem about being called, but would hope you get plently time before you have to really be a part of it.

I have deferred jury duty due to vacation/cruising plans. I thought I was going to have to prove the financial loss I would incur by serving. In reality, they did not even ask for documentation.
