Ok ladies who have cruised before. What is one to do about make up. I know I will be getting much darker on this cruise how do I choose which color of foundation to take with me. Does any one have any suggestions that wont cost an arm and a leg. OR should I just not worry about make up on this cruise. I want to look good in the pictures especially the ones for formal nights? Any input is appreciated...
Thanks Jenn

I love MAC. They make a powder type foundation that I use all the time. It is great and I don't think it is that expensive. Here in DC there are MAC stores, but you can buy it at Nordstrom also (I know, makes it sound expensive) but compared to other "names" I think it is much cheaper. Better quality than you Revlons and stuff. Plus for every 5 containers you recycle to them, you get a lipstick or something free!!

I wouldn't even worry about foundation - you will have some nice color with a tan and a touch of blush.

I second the Mac makeup - I love it and you are right it is very affordable.

I use products from the Origins line. They have a new powder out that's supposed to be "one color fits all." I haven't tried it yet, but I LOVE all their other stuff and was considering picking it up. That way even as you tan, you can still use the same powder. The product is called All or Nothing and it's $22.50.

jenray...easy solution.
I always have 3 foundation shades in my make up case. Since my skin tone changes from season to season I use and blend at least 2 on my face at ALL times.
The mistake women make with foundation is that they don't realize that the skin at the chin area never is the same shade as the skin on the cheeks because of the difference in sun exposure. If you use a foundation that matches the skin tone on the cheek area, you'll most likely wind up with a dark 'line' visible by your neck.
Use the lightest of 3 foundations (one that matches the tone of the skin on your NECK) around the jaw line and closest to the hair line all around your face, then blend in the next darker shade and even if you want, a 3rd draker shade can be applied lightly, almost like a blush.
If you blend properly, this looks natural as can be. As your skin darkens on the cruise, adjust the foundations.
Yes, you are purchasing 3 foundations (any brand that you like will do) but remember that they last 3 times as long, so in the long run, it's not costing you any more.
Then after this foundation is all blended, put on whatever else you usually put on...blush, shadows, etc.
Most importantly with make up...DON'T NEGLECT THOSE EYEBROWS!!!

Living in the South and dealing with heat and humidity a good deal of the year, I prefer to use tinted moisturizer rather than foundation. Because it's much lighter than a foundation, I find that I have fewer acne outbreaks and it also feels and looks better on my skin - it doesn't get that greasy, sticky feel or the caked-on appearance in the humidity.

I prefer Cover Girl CG Smoothers which also has an SPF of 15. I'm pretty fair-skinned, and this provides enough protection to keep me from burning on the soccer sidelines. I love being able to avoid wearing a greasy, heavy sunscreen on my face! It's available in fair to light, light to medium, medium to dark and deep. At about $6.50 a tube, it isn't too much of an investment for something that you may only use for the week.

Tan before you go---or you will fry!--although you may be too late, --you have no idea how intense the sun is down there, listen to the Mary Kay gal and use the sunscreen!!

Thanks everyone. I have been tanning and soccermommie I was considering that stuff with the SPF of 15 since sun screen breaks my face out so badly. Well you guys rule. Thanks

jen- I don't tan before I go, but that is because I learned a BIG lesson about tanning beds. Anyhow...Most definitely use a sun BLOCK, even with that and reapplying you will be fried. I know us Ohioans could not have too much of tan this time of year.

As far as the makeup goes... Estee Lauder makes this really awesome tinted moisturizer, that is very light and has SPF 15. I don't wear a lot of make up because it feels cakey to me, but this stuff is awesome.

The only time I have cruised without a tan was in Feb 2003. I did not burn and I did not wear foundation. I don't wear foundation in fall,spring,summer... http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I do wear a moisturizer with spf 15.

I use one of those blushes that gives you a glow.I use it for eyeshadow and blush. I take very little makeup with me..an eyeliner,an eye shadow(only for formal night), concealer, mascara, and lipstick. I only wore makeup at dinner. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I have the solution.

QVC makes a foundation called Models Prefer. It comes with 2 tubes, one light and one dark. The tubes are in a holder with a dial. You turn the dial to the shade you want and it mixes itself. It is really good foundation. It also comes with a lip base and an eye base. It's about $35.00. The tubes are refillable. You can adjust the color for the summer when your skin is darker. It is the perfect foundation for anyone who can't find their color because you mix it yourself.

Hope this isn't too confusing. Check their web site for more info

I swear by MAC! However, I get mine on ebay. Here in Houston, I go to Foley's, find my shade, then pay half price online.

I tan before I go and then to solve the the make-up problem for the fact that I get darker on the cruise, I just bring an Estee Lauder compact of bronzer with me and it evens it out.

If you do take foundation you can minimize the size and weight of the container (especially glass) by transferring it to a small plastic sample container. The kind that Clinique uses in their GWP is perfect for a 7 day cruise. You can also find small containers in the makeup section at K-mart. The brand name is Mon Image Professional Bottles-To-Go, there are three plastic screw top containers, a small spatula and a squeeze type syringe in each package for approx 3-4 dollars.

Last cruise (two weeks ago - Miracle) I took my foundation, eye liner, 2 lipsticks, a Stila Pallete of shadows in brown/tan/shimmer shades.

Have a great cruise!

Neutrogena also makes an oil-free tinted moisturizer with SPF 15. I have freckles and it still blends well on me and doesn't cause me to break-out.
