We will have a balcony for the first time on the Zuiderdam 10/28/06. (3 previous cruises with HAL!!!!) How long can I view the ocean without distraction??
We have never used room service before. From reading other posts I gather you must order 1 hour prior to lunch or dinner. Is there a way to view the menus other than going to the dining room door? Do they really bring you 3 appetizers, 2 soups, 2 entrees, etc. and it still taste good on arrival? And breakfast, is there a better time to call?
Did I understand correctly that the 15% surcharge is added now to alcohol ordered before sailing as well as from room service?
Is this boat going anywhere?
Thanks

At some point during the day every lounge should have that evening's dinner menu available. Just ask the bartender for it.

Like Zaandam 2, we ordered room service breakfast every morning, using the card the night before. If there is something you want, not on the card, ask and you might get it. My son wanted apple juice, not on card, I wrote it in and it came. Wanted my eggs over medium, just crossed off "easy" and wrote it in and it came perfect.
For lunch or snacks, we would order when we were hungry and it would come anytime between 10 minutes and 1/2 hr from calling.
We did tip when the order arrived. We also said thank you everytime we ordered and when the service attendant brought the food. By 3rd morning they would call us after arrival to make sure the food was correct and started putting little extra's on the tray too.:) :)
Cant wait to book another HAL cruise ....but looks like it'll be a year, at least, down the pipeline.
Enjoy your balcony...you'll have a hard time in the future cruising in anything less!

Our ROOM SERVICE in March, on ms Noordam, was fantastic! Of course! Food was excellent, always hot when needed and hot water for tea was perfect! And, yes, it always arrived on time - how do that do it?!!! Enjoy, it's one of life's delightful pleasures! :)

Room service was always prompt. They called to say it was on the way. We used the door card and wrote on what extras we wanted and always got it. We always tipped the servers and said thanks. They were always gracious. The food was always warm and tasty.;) ;) ;)

If you want room service dinner from the dining room menu, place your order a half hour before the first seating starts, just tell them what time to deliver it.
You can order from the room service menu 24/7. There are things listed for breakfast, lunch, seasick menu, or available 24 hours. I never heard that you could order from the dining room lunch menu. The full list is in the book on the desk in the cabin along with other good information such as dress code for each night and ships' services. Updates/changes/ times of shop/ lounge hours will also be in the daily program.

On our cruise last Oct, I really wanted Eggs Benedict for breakfast which are on the dining room menu. I called room service the night before and they told me to just write it in on my order card. For the next 5 days, I enjoyed Eggs Benedict on my balcony every morning!!! It always arrived hot and on time. It's little things like this that makes me feel that HAL is the best line we've cruised with. :D

If there are only 2 of us we tip $2-3 for breakfast. If there were more of us or it was for a whole evening dinner, we'd tip more.
