carry on bag and security

I have heard there is a limit to the size bag that can now be used is limited to no bigger than 11 inches? Has anyone else heard that? This was from a conversation of someone that will be going on a Carnival Cruise and they received it in their packet that this was due to security tightening.

If your (hopefully, softside) carry-on bag can be kinda 'squished' to fit the 11x17" x-ray unit, no prob.
