Hi Everyone, My Dh And I Are Booked On The Veendam Dec. 16 2006.
I Started A Roll Call And Only Four Other Passengers Answered, It Seems Very Strange. Still, Looking Forward To Our Cruise. I Have One Problem When I Booked The Itinnery Said Montego Bay, Later I Saw Ocho Rios On The Schedule? I Know They Are Both In Jamaica, We Have Been To Ocho Rios Three Times, And I Still Hope It Will Be Montego Bay, How Far Are They Apart? Does Anyone Know?

From what I have read, the cruises have changed to Ocho Rios due to Construction in the Mo Bay area, some have even said that crime in Mo Bay had something to do with it, I will be on the Veendam for Tday Nov 18

Ortrud,
Don't give up with your Roll Call. Ours started very slowly but is now going strongly though when we were going on the Prinsendam back in 2004, I started a Roll Call and nobody responded at all. HAL passengers are often more conservative and do not seem to participate in Roll Calls as eagerly as other lines eg. Princess, Carnival etc.

Things vary
We were on Veendam last Nov/Dec and must have had over 100 CCers.
We were on Veendam a couple of weeks ago and were the ONLY CCers; no one ever indicated they were going on that cruise. It was still wonderful!!

Does anyone notice that HAL's roll calls generally are not very active? I've been on Princess cruises with very, very large and active roll calls, but notice that HAL's roll calls (at least in my limited experience) are nowhere near as large or active. Yet, you get on the boat and find the cruise booked to capacity, so it's not a matter of the sailing not being popular.
Wonder why HAL's roll calls don't seem as popular as those of other lines? Most of HAL's cruisers are not "internet savvy?"

Wow! How I found you when I clicked on "Veendam" (just returned from her) is beyond me!!
Anyhow, I just found a Dec. sailing of the same cruise you are taking on Statendam. Have you been there before? We'd really love to see a bit of the area and then know where we'd love to do land tours some other time.
The long flight doesn't sound pleasant but I checked prices online and they are like $6,000. from Portland, OR. They are only aboaut $1,600. through the cruiseline but on our last cruise I was visiting with people and it seems the cruiselines are using really "awful" flight times to get their people there now. (Gotta save $, I know.) On this site, people have said they arrived at 10:30 and 11 p.m. and had to hang around the airport until the shuttle the next morning..............advice???????

This will be our first time to Australia, actually starting out in NZ. We will extending our stay in Sydney for six days. We have not as yet booked any tours, but have lots of plans for some. We got flights out of Detroit via NWA connecting in LAX on Qantas to NZ and then return from Sydney. Our cost was $3700 CDN. The times are not too bad, except for arrival in NZ at 6 am, but we are arriving two days early so that is too bad. Good hear from you. Maybe we will you arriving for Dec. 8 as we are getting off. I will be the one with the tears and DW a big smile to be arriving in Australia finally.

We have been to a Resort in Ocho Rios and we travelled from Montego Bay for about an hour and half. The dock in Ocho Rios was old and in need of repair the last time we were there on a cruise, so it don't surprise me they are not using it. Be prepared to be hounded by peddlers, somethings it is was not fun, but if you like to bargain you will enjoy them.
