Does anyone know the price of a Ship-to-Shore phone call?
I realize it's going to be expensive, but I may need to do it, and
I'm hoping it won't be absurdly expensive.
Thanks very much. :)

The last I saw it was $15 per minute.

We're sailing on 9/15 and the information that came with our cruise documents indicates that a Ship-To-Shore (&/or Shore-to-Ship) call
will cost $16.00 per minute...yikes!!!

$16 a minute!!! YOUCH! I may not need to make that phone call, after all.
Thanks for the info.

Or make it a very short phone call. :)
Cell phones will work in some ports. Why not wait until you get to port and make your call then ... either using a cell phone or a calling card? It will be a heck of a lot cheaper that $16 a minute.
Also, for the record, HAL sells a phone card at the front desk for ship to shore calls ... a flat number of minutes for a flat price ... also far cheaper than $16 a minute.

The last time we sailed (about a year ago) you were able to purchase a phone card that was good for 10 minutes for $25.00. We purchased ours from the concierge, but I would imagine you could also purchase one at the front desk. To us it was worth the $25.00 to be able to call home from our cabin and not have to run around in port trying to find a phone.

As sea-n-me posted, you can buy a phone card from the Concierge or the front desk, and it gives you 12 minutes for $25. We also found that our Verizon cell phones worked on board, even at sea, and the charge was only $2.50 per minute.

Check with your cell phone provider. When we went on a Mexican Riviera cruise on the Oosterdam last spring, I was able to have Cingular enable my phone for use in Mexico. There was no additional charge for the service; I just had to call them and have it turned on. I believe the cost for a call was 99 cents/minute.
We used it a couple of times in Cabo San Lucas and Puerta Vallarta (from our cabin). On the return trip, we cruised within sight of the coastline. I didn't make any calls, but when I turned my phone on, it did receive a signal, so I assume that I could have.
I understand that the Vollendam even has a cell phone repeater on board, so you cell phone can be used, even well out to sea. Unfortunately, that's the future of crusing for all ships. Most cruise ships will probably be so equipped within a couple of years. Then we can enjoy listening to other people's calls in the dining room and the spa, just like at home. I can hardly wait.

DH and I utilized the phone cards onboard from the Front Office. We didn't use all of the time, but the cards are good for 1 year, so we can finish them off in November. It was perfect for that quick call home to insure that everything was alright.

Wow! RCL charges $7.99 a minute for a call (to our from the ship) and I consider that to be whacky!!
On a side note, I saw a man at guest services on RCL who could not understand for the life of him why his bill was so high. Turns out his daughter had been calling her friends back home, who she missed a lot. Oy!!
