Wife decided that a Venice sailing wasn't what she wanted so we booked the Rome to Stockholm sailing in 05/2007. I would appreciate any recommendations for hotels in Rome. There is a Sheraton & a Marriott, but I'm sure that their are others that are just as good. I've also got a few from TripAdvisor.com, but other suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.

We spent 4 days at the Hotel Eden and had a wonderful time. It has a good location and has one of Rome's best restaurants on its top floor.

I stay regularly at the Grand Hotel de la Minerve.......stunning & right around the corner from the Pantheon & very close to all the sights, shops & restaurants.

Leonid-

It depends on your point of view. If you have been or will be going to Rome again, both the Sheraton and the Marriott are perfectly servicable.
For what they're charging however, I'd be tempted to spring for a really sublime experience and stay at the Hassler Hotel.

It has THE most perfect location in Rome (at the top of the Spanish Steps!), and, the Deluxe Rooms are absolutely TO DIE FOR.
Best of all, the Hasslers "Salon Eva" is a luxurious and elegant living room cum guest lounge, where you will be pampered and cossited after a long days sightseeing. The service is exquisite!!! ...and their Grappa bar is one of the untold secrets of Rome.:D
Enjoy your trip!

Rome is our favorite city. The hotels recommended are all good choices. We go about every other year for about ten days and stay quite a bit downscale from the Hassler, but don't mind that because we prefer the Campo de Fiori / Jewish Ghetto /Piazza Navona end of the ancient city within a 5 minute walk to the Forum, the Pantheon, the Tiber River and Trastevere (Spanish Steps is about 20 minutes walk away, depending on your speed!) We can stroll along the Tiber in one direction to the awesome Sunday flea market and in the other direction to the Vatican. In this area near the Tiber you'll find a number of small 2 and 3 star hotels such as the Teatro di Pompeo, Smeraldo and the Arenula along with higher end properties like the Ponte Sisto. Sites like the NY Times travel section, Fodors have contact info and some reviews.

Have a fabulous time.

A very nice hotel, next to the Hassler and considerably less expensive, is the Intercontinental de la Ville. Like the Hassler, the location is superb! Concierge service was top-notch also.
