This is the first time I've taken a cruise where I had to fly to the port. Question is, do I put on my "Pride" luggage tags before I go to the airport, or after I claim the luggage in LA? The way luggage is thrown around, isn't there a good chance of the tags being torn off ? Then again, if my name is torn off, at least they'd know where to send the luggage. We'll be responsible for our own luggage, so I figured I'd ask the experts how they usually do it. Thanks everyone.

Hi...I put my tags on before getting to the airport. Reinforce them with duct tape so they won't get torn off..I didn't have a problem. Enjoy your cruise! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I wait until I arrive at the port of departure. I attach the tags after I claim my luggage.

I also wait to put my tags on until I get my luggage at the arriving airport, always afraid they'll come loose when the handlers toss them about. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

First, I fill them out before I ever leave for the airport, but keep them with my cruise documents. I then attach them after they're claimed at my final destination OR if we're staying at a hotel a day before our cruise, I attach them at the hotel before heading to the ship.

Ditto the above.

I wait till I'm on the way to the port.

But before I leave home I make self-seal luggage tags on my computer that show the transfer details of my trip as well as contact information along the way. Plus, it's a good idea to have the same inside your luggage too in case your tags are gone

A new first for us, an idea from fellow CC member Dosi, we bought laminated pet ID tags to attach too as yet another layer of identification

Another teeny weeny hint about luggage tags:

I cover the tags w/clear tape. If the tags should get damp from rain or any other moisture, the info won't be smeared. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Remember if you are TBA you need to change tags at the port so that you will have the luggage at your cabin sooner. I have left the TBA tags on but got our luggare late in the evening. The porters should have a manifest and new tags when you check your luggage on at the ship. If you are using airport transfers and your luggage goes in a truck to the pier you can not do a thing at that point.

I always fill out my luggage tags at home, laminate them and then attach them to the suitcases with cable ties. I have not had any of the tags come off and they are water proof as well.

Hey Pat,
My wife went to wal-mart and bought a roll of wildly colored ribbon in the sewing dept. We tied some onto the handle of all of our luggage so that when you disembark and find mounds of luggage in this room ,you can pick you'rs out much faster.
