My wife, myself and my 19 year old daughter(we are from Scotland) are cruising Carnival for the first time after many RCCL + P&O cruises. Is there any difference in the formal dressing between Carnival & RCCL.
PS Are there many out there om the same cruise?

Hi Scotti - Welcome to the board. Formal night is much the same on any cruise line. You will see men in tux, dark suit, and even some in blazer/tie. Ladies attire ranges anywhere from long, formal, sequined gowns and cocktail dresses, to 'church-type-dresses'.
Fortunately, MOST savvy cruisers DO go by the suggested guidelines set forth by Carnival. However, you may also see a few who do not 'play by the rules', and dress down. These types should have dinner in the alternative dining area.
Aren't kilts formal? We have a Scottish clan here, and it's always a treat to see a gentleman in kilts! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hi Cotton, yep kilts are very smart ''formal wear'' but if the weather is warm they can be uncomfortable as a kilt is very heavy!

Formal is formal no matter what cruise line you board.

Scottie,
If you're lucky, you just might see some folks in full Highland Dress on Formal Night.
Saw them both in October and January in the Caribbean.

Perhaps something else as well. Watch this space.

Dark suit is fine. It says that in the literature. Most people will find a sports coat and tie okay. Anything less... you need to eat at the buffet or order room service.

Hi Scotti,
We are also on this cruise. I am very excited. For formal night, my DH will wear his "Mess Dress" (formal military uniform) for his last time while on active duty http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif Maybe all the CCr's on this cruise can meet for a Bon Voyage drink.

Hi, me and my better half are on this cruise to, 2 nd time , we did it last year as well. We pack very light and skip formal night and go up to the buffet. We go to NY by train and dont think its worth carrying around the extra clothes for 1 night dinner. We have done more than a few cruises and only take dress clothes on 7 nights or longer. To each his own. Its a great trip and you will enjoy it no matter what.We are also trying 8 pm dinner time because if you have early seating you miss pulling out of all the ports. St. John is a lot of fun to sail away from, they dress up and sing you off.

Hey, now some people start showing up, I knew there had to be more! So many school and Girl Scout events for me between now and June 19th that I could cry, but it makes the time past faster! Just me and my husband this time, 10th anniversary. We've driving to NJ and taking the ferry into Manhatten.
