My TA booked us into 4 cabins on the Upper Promenade Deck of the Noordam. Verandah cabins 4044-4050. My question to you folks is - has anyone had experience with these particular cabins? Are they noisy by the elevators? Since they are located behind the elevators we are hoping that they will be sufficiently quiet. Can anyone comment? Many thanks.

Have not been on the Nordam but have had these cabins on other ships and have had no problem. Actually they are real handy.......
Have fun.

Only one problem we found is the Elevator noises.
The ringing of the arrival bells each time they arrive on the floor whether your in a Suite, a Veranda cabin ..... we have not stayed in an Inside Stateroom aboard her yet so dont know but presume the sounds will be similar..

I agree with Gary and Judy. I have been on the Zuiderdam and the Westerdam and am booked on the Oosterdam for the holidays. Unless the Noordam is different, I never have been bothered, and have stayed in cabins about the same distance from the elevators as the ones you mention. When the cabin door is closed, sounds not from directly outside the door are pretty well muffled, in my opinion.
And I agree that it can be handy to be near the elevators/stairs.
Have a great cruise.

I was in an outside cabin directly behind the forward elevators on Upper Promenade on the Noordam. I could hear the "ding" of an elevator arriving only as I approached the alcove. There was no noise when I was inside the cabin.
The location was ideal for me and my favorite haunts.

CAN YA HEAR ME NOW as in the Verizon VZ:NYSE Commercials said..
Hearing is a personal attribute some hear better... some hear worse... some naught at all..
The ringing of the bells would also depend on how much traffic was coming and going.. volume of traffice... and other factors contibute reflection of the sound waves etc....
Just an observation we have had before the closeness of elevators and which shaft bank is good to be closer in proximity to where you go mostly... the VISTA are long...:cool:/)

Lulley - You're gonna love those balconies. John & I had one of those VD cabins on the starboard side. We liked it SO much we booked the same one for January. The only time I could hear any noise for the elevator was standing just inside the door to our own cabin at the closet, pondering what to wear. I might occasionally hear the bing-bong of the arriving elevator car or some really loud obnoxious other pax in the hallway or elevator lobby area. But further in the cabin, at the bed, nothing.
Also, these are connecting cabins. Unless you want to open the doors between the cabins, you won't hear your next door neighbors, either. The soundproofing is pretty good.
The balconies for these 4 cabins extend about 2.5ft further than all the rest, making them a bit larger. If you have your cabin steward open the partitions between the 4 balconies, that's gonna be a HUMONGUOUS balcony. What sailing are you on? Party's on your verandah! ;)

Noise isn't a problem for the vast majority of people. The cabin wall insulation is really very good.

Thanks everybody! I am relieved to hear that you won't "hear" much. Pun intended. We are on the 8/12 sailing at the moment. Originally we were on the 8/5 sailing but HAL has a group of 500 travelling on the ship and they blocked out the late dining for them. My choice was to eat at 6:15 every night or pick another date. Since none or our group eat at 6:15 at home, we chose to move to another date. Yes we are planning on opening all the verandahs for one HUGE verandah. Can't wait. Now all we need is good weather that week!
Thanks again for everyone's insight.
