Amsterdam is a beautiful ship.

You can read my pre-SOE review of the ship here:

I spent 30 glorious days on the Amsterdam this past January ... a Hawaii/South Pacific itinerary, and I can say that she is a beautiful ship. I posted a review when I returned, which you can read here:

I am sailing her again in another month (October 17) ... pretty much the same itinerary as you ... just with New York to Fort Lauderdale tacked on at the beginning, making it a 13-day cruise. I'll be sure to post another review when I return.

If you've been on the Rotterdam, the Amsterdam is almost identical. They are co-flagships, and flagships are generally the best the fleet has to offer.

Blue skies ...

We thoroughly enjoyed our time on the Amsterdam (S. America 2005) and I think actually she was marginally nicer than the Rotterdam (Eastern Med. 2006) even though they are sister ships. I thought that the suites, decor and ambience were the nicest of any ship that we have ever sailed on. The dining room food only bettered by the Queen's Grill on the QE2 (but the Lido was way better). I certainly would sail on her again - it was a lovely introduction to HAL and a great cruise.

It's been a few years but The Amsterdam remains my favorite HAL ship, not too big and not too small. Everything about it is elegant relative to the price point.

We have sailed a couple of times on the Amsterdam --- beautiful ship!!

The first time we did a 22 day repositioning cruise on her from Seattle to Ft Lauderdale.

Just this past Mar/Apr we did a 15 day Hawaiian cruise on her.

Never had any problems and would definitely sail on her again!!

My wife and I recently sailed on the Amsterdam (May 2006/Transatlantic Cruise from NY to Copenhagen) and loved the ship- excellent food (dining room, Lido, & Pinnacle Grill), great service, and beautiful accomodations. We hit some rough weather in the North Atlantic (seas up to 20' and gale force winds) but the Amsterdam proved seaworthy.

This was our third cruise with HAL (the other two on the Zaandam to Alaska and on the Ryndam to the Sea of Cortez) and the Amsterdam is our favorite ship so far.
