I was wondering if anyone has been able to find a disposable underwater camera with a built in flash? I will be snorkeling and wanting to take pictures tubing in dark caves.
I have use before just a regular underwater camera from Walmart before when snorkeling and my pictures didn't turn out that great. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif
Any suggestions?
A made a few phone calls and Wolfe Camera Store sells a underwater camera w/flash (not disposable) for $99. brand: Sea Life - Reelmaster. It takes 35mm film. Does anyone have any experience in one of these?
Thanks for your help.... http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I did find Kodak ones at Walmart that did have flash. I used them in the caves when tubing, but still didn't get great pictures. Those caves are really, really dark! The underwater pictures came out really nice though.

WE have a poloroid that we picked up at a garage sale for $5!!! so we figured if it was garbage it wouldn't matter but....it takes the best pics underwater and on land. It has a flash and uses 35mm. I have never seen them in a store and don't know what the price would be today. All I can tell you is that is a bright yellow and it looks like a harmonica. I would also check ebay. WE have found underwater camera by fugi CHEAP. Dont remember if they came with a flash or not

UNTIL WE SAIL AGAIN.......

Here's one we used last trip, it and took pretty good pictures.

Cheap Underwater Camera with flash (http://store.yahoo.com/photoconnection1/reuncafl3527.html)

It's reloadable, costs $8 (but minimum shipping was something like $8 or $9, I bought three and it was still minimum shipping for all).

It uses 35mm film (400 is best) and 1 AA battery, and comes pre-loaded.

I suggest getting some silicone seal lubricant to use on the seal when reloading to minimise the chance of leaking.

Gagirl, I bought the same Reefmaster camera two months ago for our April 2004 cruise. I feel its a good camera and my photos all turned out great! If you go this route, make sure you read ALL the directions carefully and familiarize yourself with the camera before you use it. My 17-yr. old son used a disposable underwater camera we bought at Walmart and his photos turned out fine, so either way you go, you probably won't be disappointed with the results.

I bought one at Walmart a year and a half ago. It could be used both with or without the waterproof case. It cost $40 and took 35mm film. It worked great.

Every time I scroll past the title to this thread I think it says, "Disposable underwear with flash." http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Fuji at Walmart. We finally gave up on buying the disposable and bought a good one for about $200. It is great to take to the lake, neighbor's pool and cruising.

It's true the disposal cameras with flash just don't work well in very dark places but they do work pretty well in overcast sky's. We used one at the Sting Ray tour with an overcast sky and it worked real well.

In Cozumel down 30 feet or so it worked moderately well with a sunny sky but as soon as we took a picture with the sun hidden the picture was not near about as good.

Solution, if you want good pictures on a consistant basis and you dive a lot, it's worth it to buy a camera really geared up for diving. I saw one post for a camera around $200. Seems a pretty good price.

If you don't expect to do as much diving you're going to be restricted to the Wal Mart type cameras that do a good job with adequate light.

And the post about the camera with interchangable film is correct, they will leak the further down you go. Suggest just using a onetime disposal with a flash if it fits your diving needs.

Good luck. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

flahs doesn't work the same underwater as it does on land, so i'm assuming any flashes you find on disposeable underwater cameras are just meant to make them more versatile on land as well, but the flash isn't really meant for underwater. On a reloadable underwater camera, you'll find a flash that's made for underwater picture taking and will work much better. Just a thought.

It's definitely not long distance, only for a few feet, but the flash last trip made a big difference enhanceing the color of the photos compared to our previous trip.

A higher end camera with a bigger flash would have helped even more, but don't discount a simple flash out of hand.
