I Have Requested A Table For 2, Early Dinning, Upper Level. Was Informed That I Can Only Be Placed On "waitlist." The Cruise Is In April 2007..how Are My Chances For This Request Being Granted? Have Had Table For 6 & 8 In The Past And Were Enjoyable Except On One Occasion But We Just Want To Have Dinner Together This Time Around. Has Anyone Been Turned Down? Thanks !

Similar to the OP, I would appreciate any insight from the experienced HAL cruisers!
I am on a December Noordam sailing, and requested a table for 2. I inquired via email to Ship Services about my request, and this is what they told me "This is to confirm that we have received your request for a table for two. Please keep in mind that this is a request only. We cannot confirm your table number in advance." I also gave them a call, and they mentioned that there are only 10 tables for two per seating [so 10 for upper seating and 10 for lower seating], and the tables tend to be around the posts toward the middle of the room. Also, Ship Services mentioned that the ship assigns just before departure and they don't have any idea of seating.

Quite true
HAL won't know for certain until just a few weeks prior to departure who will be actually on the ship, so there's no reason whatsoever for them to make any kind of specific seating arrangements for the dining room until after final payments are made. Like the aft-cabins, there's a very limited number of tables for two so someone's bound to be disappointed.
Why not join the roll-call thread for your specific sailing and make arrangements to dine w/ your new friends there? I guarantee you'll have a much better time if you do! :)
