View Full Version : Price increase

Just curious - why would Carnival increase cruise price only six weeks prior to cruise date? I keep reading about everyone finding lower prices closer to the date they sail. Today I checked my cruise and found out prices have gone up $50 a person for the category I booked.

I think the price goes down based on how many people are booked for that cruise. My Rep. told me if the cruise is sold out the prices go down. Not sure if that is how it works out.

Prices go down prior to sailing if the ship is not full. It looks like Carnival recently had a price increase across the board, probably due to fuel costs. If your ship is full or filling up quickly, they will not lower the price.

One reason......supply vs demand This happens most on summer and holiday cruise dates.

Often times I've found price heading up during the last month before sailing. Fewer cabins available. I expect higher fares over the next couple or three yrs. There are 12 new ships sailing this year but only 3 newbuilds for next year. Cruiselines are sailing at 97 to 103%
of capacity. If their demand is greater than supply of cabins then prices are too low.

I just checked the prices again today and it's still going up. Category 1A rooms are now going for what I paid for my category 6A guarantee! Must be a combination of gas price increases, summer vacation and the fourth of July holiday that are driving this up. Darn! I was really hoping to get some money back. Guess I have a lot more to learn - this is only my second cruise.

Huh? If it's sold out, who cares?

Perhaps something else as well. Watch this space.
