View Full Version : Sensation was great!

Just wanted to say the Sensation was a great cruise! Four days is just perfect for that long weekend getaway. Crew were wonderful and the ship was clean. Lots of purple but no complaints at all!. HIGHLY recommend Paradise Beach in Cozumel!! For right now there's no cover charge and you have use of their umbrellas and lounge chairs. There's a water tramboline and mini water rock climing thingie too. The food and drinks were good! Be sure and look out for Tom, he's the guy who runs the place. He goes around and tries to say hello to everyone. He knows about CC as he posts at the ports of call board. Very personable (and ladies, he's yummy eyecandy too. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ) !!
Having til midnight in Cozumel is a cruiser's dream! Some of us swam and sunned most of the day, others rented a jeep, then we all headed back to the ship for some food then back out to CnC til around 11:00 p.m. Wild times!! This place rocks at night! We then partied at the pier at Fat Tuesdays. The ship looks so beautiful at night!
I do NOT recommend trying this! But some of you might remember I booked a 10:30 a.m. flight after the cruise. I was a little nervous but I kept thinking positive! The self assist passengers were called first around 8:35 a.m. We were some of the first off the ship. Arrived at the airport about 8:55 a.m. Whew!! That was stressful!! So don't attempt it! LOL http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
I'm braindead at the moment and I came home sick then had to go straight to work from the airport. So I feel like an airhead right now. Just let me know if you have any questions!!!
To my cruising buddies!!! Had the BEST time, many memories!!! Love ya'll!!!

Hi Jan! Loved hanging out with you the last 4 1/2 days!! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Just a few things to add about Sensation. First of all, the new beds are the most comfortable thing I've ever slept on. LOVED IT! The crew were wonderful, didn't see much of the CD but he seemed OK. The new piano bar was nice to have, and also the new atrium bar. The overall atmosphere of the ship was "PARTY TIME!!", people were happy, crazy, cutting up, etc...
Tons of kids in the hottubs, one very small child was in there with her mom, and puked! YICK! But of course, the mom didn't take the kid out... don't get me started. Drinks of the day were very, very strong. The ship moved ALOT, bring dramamine and you'll be fine. In room movies were great! I saw 4 different movies over the 4 day period. They do have the main channels as well, we were able to have a Survivor finale party in the polo lounge, it was fun! (Rob should have won!!). This was really the perfect 4 day cruise, just plain fun!!
As Jan said, embarkation and debarkation were just the smoothest ever. There was literally NO line for embarkation, we walked right up and had our Sail and Sign cards in hand within three minutes. Fabulous. Abundant taxi's, porters, etc..., they know what they are doing in Tampa.
I'll post more as I think of it!! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I didnt see much lounge chair saving at all, there always seemed to be plenty of chairs around. If you want to be right next to the main pool you may want to get there early, but if you are flexible with your loctation you won't have a problem.

We arrived around 10:45, met a porter immediately, and walked right into the embarkation area, right up to the front of the line. No hassle, no confusion, no waiting in line.... they all should be like that. They had so many people working there, it was wonderful. Kudos to Carnival, and the port of Tampa!

I'm in total agreement with Sue, Jan, & Zone. It was a FANTASTIC cruise, lot's of fun! The entire personality of this cruise was FUN SHIP FUN!
iuvdoxies..... the hand seats at the bar in the Piano Lounge are still there.
There was an awesome three man band playing in Michelangelo's Lounge that I really enjoyed.
The itinerary of the cruise was so good, starting with the port of Tampa. It was the third time I've cruised from Tampa and again, embarkation was painless. The 7 AM till midnight call to the port of Cozumel was just enough time to sightsee, shop, and party.
The Imigination was also there til midnight, parked right beside us at the pier. This made for a GREAT party at Fat Tuesday's (caught that party on our way back from Carlos n Charlies). It was my fourth trip to Cozumel and I have never seen Fat Tuesday's rockin like that!
If you are considering the Sensation and you like to have fun...... go for it! I would love to relive it again.

I remembered a couple of other silly things, the first being that they now have STRAWS on the ship! yeah! Also, the portions in the dining roomed seemed smaller to me. The food was good, but there was less of it. My steak came with three small potato wedges and about 1/8 cup of green beans. I didn't notice bar service in the dining room AT ALL, so if you want a drink with dinner you should bring one with you! I honestly can't remember seeing anyone offered drinks except for bottles of wine. OK, I'll post more when I think of it!!! LOL!

I too was on the 5/06 sailing of the Sensation. I had a great time. Even though the ship is older, it's in great shape and very clean! As for the decor, well, that's another story, lol! There was lots of rocking on the ship, definitely bring meds, it usually doesn't bother me, but it did a bit this time. My one complaint, the debarkation was a disorganized mess. We carried our own luggage and met in the Fantasia Lounge. Supposed to meet at 8, I arrived at 7:15. I ended up being one of the last to leave with this group. They had a staff member named Rich 'running' this process. He was condesending and rude. They definitely needed more than one person to organize this room. I did miss have a balcony, sold out by the time I booked. Overall, great cruise, good food, great drinks, and friendly staff! Loved the amount of time we had in Cozumel. Might have to go again in the summer since I live in Tampa!
Happy Cruising!

We also just got off the Sensation the May 1, 2004 5 day. I was just telling someone maybe it was the date May 1, I am not sure but I thought there would be a lot more Fun going on. We were fine since it was my best friend and myself on our annual get away cruise but on our sailing it was almost all groups, families, couples and such. It was reaalllllllyyy calm which was great but I did think it would be wilder. Now I am worried bc we are cruising the 4 day Fantasy for my toddlers birthday http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif on 5/23 and am not sure what to expect. I know on our Disney cruises it is always laid back and last year on the 7 day Inspiration it was fun, then we also did the 3 day RCI SOS and it was laid back so not sure what factors into it. I did think the Sensation was well worth what we spent and a great get away.
Glad you had fun. We took a taxi to Chakanab and now the entrance fee is $12 USD per adult in Cozumel and that is fun if you want to snorkel. In GC we always take a taxi to Seven Mile Beach since I have discovered I do not like rays (lol) after one tried to "marry me" last summer http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Oh my God we had that guy Rich too for early deembarkation....what a moron. We had flights the airline moved up from 1:30 to 11:30 am so it was fine to show our eticket and then meet up in the Fantasia Lounge but this young guy running it did not know what the hell was going on. He let one side of the Fantasia Lounge go before our side when we all thought what the hell is he not going to let one row go then the other. He would just let one side go and we sat and sat and then he would leave and other people who were not early dembarkation would come down the stairs and leave too and we are all sitting there on the right side (afacing the stage) then he said we could go and we ended up clogged up on the ships stairs and then were stopped and had to wait about 20 minutes more before we could take the esclators down to clear customs but after that we grabbed a taxi and were out of there. Someone should tell that guy to wake the hell up or at least how to do his job..........funny you mentioned bc when I read your post I knew exactly who you were talking about. We thought everyone else on the cruise was really great and it seems Carnival is really trying to step up customer service and services. On our 5 day cruise I watched 4 movies too which was an added bonus!

I tried to sign the log book, but it was locked up when I went in there. Good thing you signed it Zone, or there would be no record of us being there! LOL!!!
They told us that our waiting area was the fantasia lounge, to wait there until our color was called. Do you think we did that? Heck no, we all had an enjoyable morning sipping coffee on the lido deck. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Of course, we didn't have early debarkation. We walked right off the ship when they called our color, no problem. Sorry that early debarkation was such a mess, not a fun thing to do at 7:15am.
I thought the social staff was a bit lacking, honestly. I didn't see much of them, but they seemed a bit young and inexperienced. At the muster drill, there was a young girl just basically telling us all to shut the heck up.

Hey, I am going on the Sensation in July. If you are not in a huge hurry to leave can you get breakfast the last day? Can you wait on Lido and have breakfast and coffee?
Also, are there midnight buffets on the Sensation, and if so how are they?
Also, do they have a talent show?
Sounds like y'all had a great time. I'd love to do a group cruise someday.

Hi Donna, yes, you can get breakfast the last day until 9ish. We were supposed to wait in a lounge for our color to be called, but we all just went up and had breakfast and stayed on the lido.
There were midnight buffets, the one that I remember was the mexican buffet, so good!

You remember that?? ROFLMAO!
That was the night we were in Cozumel. I only have vague memories of that sail away from Cozumel. Every once in awhile I'll get a flashback.

The Mexican buffet after sailaway in Cozumel was great! Yes I remember that clearly Cheryl! LOL!
Concerning debarkation. I had a very early flight so I took off all of my own luggage. I was at the photo gallery at 7 a.m. to pick up pictures then had breakfast at the Lido Deck. We were told for self assisted luggage passengers to wait in the Fantasia Lounge. However, when I got there it was so crowded I couldn't even get in. So I just hung out right near the stairway outside the lounge and as soon as I heard that self assisted could leave, I whipped on down the stairs one flight and was out the door after showing Immigration my passport. I think I was about the 3rd or 4th passenger to leave.
For a four day cruise they don't have a talent show or a past guest party either.

As far as I know the Sensation doesn't have hairdryers. At least there wasn't one in my cabin. I'd play it safe and bring your own. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I always bring my own hairdryer anyway. The ones on the ships that do have them aren't very powerful. They probably think it's a fire hazard LOL http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hi Disneycruiser, we were also on the May 1st sailing. I looked and looked for someone else who was going on that date lol. We were a group of 5 women traveling together. We also thought the crowd on this sailing seemed more subdued. We went on the 4 day last year and it was a rocking party. Maybe it's the difference between the 4 and 5 day. Last year it was more like a long weekend cruise.
I also agree that the band in Michelangelo's was fantastic. Lot's of people, young and old, dancing, dancing, dancing.
Doulasue-at dinner we had the barservice check with us every night, and we never wanted anything. Isn't it funny how it goes.
Zone-I also came home from my cruise with a sinus infection/cold. Had to get antibotics from the doc when I got home because it turned into bronchitis. This is the third cruise in a row (since I started paying attention) where I have picked up a cold etc. At least it's just a cold. I can deal with that.
I wouldn't know how comfortable the beds are http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif we had a cat. 12 suite and I always end up with the foldout couch. The cushions keep wanting to roll you off onto the floor. The new down comforters are very very nice. A little too warm, but comfortable.
I will try to get pics posted soon of our trip.

It was preety laid back and was a nice cruise. I sent a letter to CCL letting them know I think they are doing a better job and can see the results. We leave again this Sunday on a 4 day for sons 3rd birthday. On the May 1 Sensation I went with my Best Friend for a getaway and it was a nice cruise. Glad you had fun!
