I spoke with a very helpful rep at Carnival today inquiring about the early check in at the Queen Mary. She even sent me an E-mail that provided the info on the early check in. She emphasized that this is the way the process is to work, but sometimes, there are still glitches. Anyway, here it is for all interested to review. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Pre Check-In at Long Beach Cruise Terminal

For guests arriving at the Long Beach Cruise Terminal early on the day of
embarkation, we offer a Pre Check-In service from 9:00am to 12:00pm.

. Whether arriving by air and using our motor coach or arriving by private
car, the guest will give the luggage to the Porter; the customary tip for
this service is $1.00 per bag.

. The guest will proceed to the Queen Mary where the Queen Mary Staff will
direct the guest to the Carnival Check-In Lounge.

. The check-in includes submitting cruise documents, showing proof of travel
documentation and issuing a credit card (if applicable) for his/her Sail
& Sign Account. Guests opting to pay in cash for the Sail & Sign Account
will do so on board at the Information Desk.

. The guest will receive a stamped boarding pass and be advised to return

to the cruise terminal at 12:00pm for the boarding procedure.

The guest will have many entertainment options while waiting to board the
ship (see list below).

After 12:00pm, the guest may proceed to the cruise terminal for the
embarkation process, but bypassing the Check-In Counter.

The guest will pass through the X-ray Security Machines with his/her
carry-on bags. Luggage larger than 11"x 17" will not be permitted through
the security machine and must be checked-in with a curbside porter.

The guest will have a "Welcome Aboard" photo taken by the Ship's Photo
Staff. The photo will be on display later in the cruise for purchase.

The guest will go to another area to collect his/her boarding card.
. EL PR: The guest will be issued a boarding card that is used for,
1) getting on/off the ship, 2) stateroom key, and 3) Sail & Sign Account.
. EC: The guest will be issued a boarding card that is used for, 1) getting
on/off the ship, and 2) Sail & Sign Account. A separate plastic key will
also be issued for the stateroom door.

The Security Personnel will take the guest's boarding card and with the
A-Pass System, will imbed a full color, digital photograph together with
personal database information directly onto the boarding card.

The guest at this time may proceed on board for his/her cruise.

Joe and Dianna,

Glad you saw the post. I had planned on e-mailing you later with the info. The boards have provided a lot of info, but I do like seeing the official way things are supposed to work.

Kathy,

We're flying into LAX the day before. We'll be staying at the Westin Long Beach, got it on priceline for $85. We're so excited we can hardly stand it. Our TA is still working on changing our cabin. Right now were in R19. Booked a 4A gty and was told it was the last gty for the price we got the cruise for (about $150 savings than posted websites). I don't like being in the front or back of the ship when it's the Rivera deck as the anchor wakes me up every morning when we hit the ports.

Have you decided on any shore excursions or you just gonna wing it? We'll probably wing it in Catalina and may book an excursion in Ensenada. Don't really want to see La Bufadora and the wine tour is 5 hours!

Take care..only 47 short (LOL) days!

In Catalina, I think we will do a glass bottom boat tour or the semi submerisble (?). Living in California all my life, I've been to Catalina numerous times. My mother lived in California until about 10 years ago and also has been there before. In Ensenada, I'm sure we will NOT do any tours. We may get off the ship and do a little shopping in the shops right at the pier.

Joe and Dianna, you will love the Westin there in Long Beach. I stayed there before our cruise last December (on the Pride). The rooms there are very nice. We flew right into Long Beach, nice small airport. It was a lot cheaper for air fare as well as taxi's to and from. You will be within walking distance of a lot of things. Lot's of nice little shops down by the water. also when you go out of the hotel if you turn to the left down about 2 block, the Long Beach Cafe (Pink building) great breakfast. you won't believe the size for the price. Have a great time. John
