Going on the Lirica Dec 18th and there's going to be a few youngsters with us on this cruise. Are there any self-service laundries on this ship? ;)

Sorry to say there are no self-service laundries on board. We brought tons of underwear and permanent press stuff.I don't know the price of full laundry service-check with your TA on that.

Hi, my family and I are also sailing the Lirica on 18 December. My husband and I, along with our 12-year-old daughter. We are very much looking forward to it but concerned about the laundry situation as well. Guess we'll make the best of it though -- look forward to possibly meeting you!
Cheers,
Whitney

Hi Whitney:
My concern with laundry stuff is because my son will be with us on this cruise and he lives in western Canada. He and his "gang" (3 daughters ages 25, 17, and 11;3 sons ages 23, 5, and 2) are arriving in Miami 2 days before the cruise and then meeting us in Ft Lauderdale on cruise day. There will probably be a lot of laundry to be done with that bunch. But knowing my son, he'll probably send everything to the ship's laundry no matter what it costs. :o Well, I'm not going to worry about it and I know we'll have a great time. Maybe your 12 year old daughter will get to hang out with my 11 year old grandaughter. ;)

Hi Howard
My family will be on this cruise as well. 15 yr old son, 13 yr old daughter. Can't wait till December 18. Not worried about laundry, just going to bring lots of socks and undies.

You're right coach....we're on a vacation and we don't want to worry about dity laundry, do we. :p My wife and I live in Florida so we drive to the port and that means unlimited luggage I guess  Anyway, we'll have enough to hold us over the 11 days I'm sure. See you onboard. ;)

My husband and 2 sons age 12 and 8 are also on the Dec 18 cruise for 11 days. This is cruise #4 for DH and me and #2 for our boys. Are there any other boys going that are the same ages??

Just booked a suite on Linica. A couple of questions----does anyone have pictures of the suites? The advertising said "stocked bar", what does that mean, do you think?

Sorry, I don't have a picture of a suite cabin, but in reality I do believe that what they call a "suite" is nothing more than what other cruise lines call verandah cabins. ;) If you go to www.msccruises.com I think there is a photo of the "suite cabin". As for the "stocked bar" that just means that they have a mini fridge loaded with stuff that you have to pay outrageous prices for if you use anything. :p

The MSC mid-size quartet (Armonia, Sinfonia, Lirica & Opera) are all very similar. Broadly speaking there are just two sizes of cabin, a standard-sized one at 150 sq metres, and a larger-sized one: 180 sq metres? 200 sq metres? - something like that. In Armonia, Sinfonia and Lirica, all non-balcony outside cabins, and all inside cabins, are of the smaller size, and that extends to about three decks' worth. The larger cabins appear on, I think, deck 9 (the deck below the pool) and deck 11 (the one above the open deck). These all have balconies, and are termed 'suites'. They're not what other lines would call suites, they're just bigger cabins. So a suite on Lirica is a larger cabin with a balcony.
For information, things are a little different on Opera, the last of the quartet to be built. MSC had realised that balconies were popular (and that they could charge more for them) so they added balconies onto deck 8 and made the standard-sized outside cabins on that deck balcony cabins. They also put standard-sized outside cabins with balconies onto deck 9 instead of the 'suites', and they also put inside cabins on that deck: the other three ships don't have any inside cabins on that deck. On Opera that leaves just deck 11 with the 'suites' - the larger cabins, with balconies.

There is a lady who contributes regularly on this board who has posted hundreds of photographs of MSC ships including the Lirica. Her information and photos and accompanying reviews are comprehensive and excellent in every way. Her board name is MAGWA and her actual name is Pam. You can find several pictures of the balcony suite on this site: <http://www.magwa.co.uk/lirica/msclirica.htm>
When you reach that site, click on "photographs" near the top of the screen. Then you will find many photographs of the exterior and interior of the Lirica including one category called something like "balcony suite". Don't stop there because there are beautiful photos of many lounges, the dining rooms, etc. Obviously this compilation of many ships including several MSC ships took a great deal of time and we have MAGWA to thank for all her wonderful efforts.
I will be in a suite on the Lirica from Jan. 9th to 20th so if you want any additional information after that date please let me know.

We just booked a suite on the LIRICA for the 11 night Caribbean on 4/18. They have a good promotion ($1195) going until the end of the month. You have to pay in full within 24 hours of booking but at this price, it really doesn't matter.

Hi
I am booked on the 18 April cruise too.
It will be myself, my guide dog and my guide dog's groomer. Also two other friends, in another cabin.
This will be my fourth cruise with my guide dog. Oct 2005 to the south, May 2006 to Alaska, October 2006 to Bermuda and now this one.:)
Isn't cruising fun?

I can't believe we have already found someone else on the same cruise. I was thinking that nobody would post since this isn't a very popular site compared to those of RCI, NCL, etc. We will be in suite 10077. We have two other cruises booked before this one. We are going on the NCL SUN in December and the NCL STAR in February.
I just read about your 'little' guide dog OZ. We have two little shih-tzus who we always hate to leave behind but have good house sitters that take very good care of them.
We live in Southern California outside of Palm Springs. Although our weather is warm, we have very little humidity and always suffer when we are in the Caribbean.
If you want, please feel free to email me privately at jerry.forcruises@verizon.net.

We will be on Lirica for Easter, she sails Apr 7 for Jamaica, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras (11 Nights).
I'm very surprised not many are posting for MSC roll call. We sailed on Opera Apr. 2005, a transatlantic from FL, and that board was very active. Perhaps because it was across the sea.
amusea --- thanks for Pam's website. What a great job she had done.

We Were On The Easter Cruise 2 Years Ago. They Put On A Beautiful Spread. They Had Such Beautiful Chocolate Molds. It Was Really Special. Don't Miss It. Also, They Have A Different Theme Each Night For A Buffet On The Pool Deck And The Animation Team Entertain Everyone. It Is A Fun Group.

We did New Year's cruise last year and are returning this year for the Dec. 18 cruise. We found the solution to dirty laundry (two families with 8 kids combined) was to have it done locally. We hired a cab in Costa Rica and asked the driver to find us a local laundry shop. We negotiated a price and a pick up time and then took off for the beach. I think we paid $15 US for all of us, including folding service.

What a great idea! I would've never thought to do that...thanks for the tip! I was concerned about running out of clothes and having to wash my skivvies in the sink  .
