We will be on the Westerdam and I am thinking of upgrading from a va to a sy. The only problem is, the two handicapped rooms that are available are rooms sy 5001 and sy 5002. These are on the verandah deck. Are the balconies private? What is it like to sail on the very front of the ship? I have only sailed midship on all of my cruises. Thank you for your responses.

I, too, have only sailed mid-ship, and on my cruise in February on the Noordam, we have cabins booked that are 7 or 8 staterooms from the very front of the ship.

Is there a lot of movement in these cabins?

If it gets bumpy the front of the ship feels it the most. For some this is a good thing; for others it's not.
If you have any trouble with the motion of the ocean I would suggest you stay further back.

I was near the front on a very rough crossing on the Rotterdam. I'm ok with it, but I certainly could feel the movement.

;) we have booked those cabins on several cruises. I like it very much as the motion of the ocean rocks me to sleep. major drawback for me was that when you anchor out early in the am, the anchor chain rattles like mad.

We are about 9 rooms from the HC room on the Verandah deck, will I hear the anchor? Alot of Movement?

Our Jan cruise we were close to the back and I felt ALOT of motion. Then again we had some bad weather. I hope it will be smoother this time.

If I were concerned about motion, I would definitely move further aft.

I like the motion myself, but if I were motion sensitve I would want to move.

Guess the large bottle of Ginger pills will be needed.

You will not be on the very front of the ship with either of those cabins. You will be 102 feet from the bow. That is 1/3 the length of a football field. At that distance and that height, unless you have superior hearing, I don't see how you would be disturbed by the anchor chain noise (how often do you expect to anchor out?). I have stayed in forward cabins and have not experienced much difference in motion from amidships, in fact, I prefer them as there is less passageway traffic.

Being forward (fore/bow) is great in many ways.. just think you will be way ahead in places before anyone else is there....

Amidships is ok but as other say so much traffic in the halls... On HAL if you ever need help as i saw your going to be in a handicapped room then ask most should will oblige more than willingly too. I know I do.:)

Thats a nice advantage in the Atlantic Time Zone too yet we reside in the Eastern.

God Speed, fairwinds and a following sea be with you and yours.
