I asked my TA if the price drops from now untill my cruise in october whould I get a credit and she said no. Is that right? I've seen so many ppl on here saying that they get either a shipboard credit or an upgrade. I was told I wouldn't get any.
I am booked a guatentee 6a cabin on the glory, so do you think I'll get an upgrade from carnival automaticaly if the price drops since my TA will not give me a credit?

If it were me I would Cancel get another TA one who is willing to give the credits or upgrades if available for our cabin category and sailing If I know I am eligible for them. But you did mention you are booked guarentee I have never booked that way so not sure if that makes a difference or not..but I am sure someone on this board will let you know here shortly. Some folks get lucky and get the TA's who will give the credits and usually in my past cruises...that was the norm for us when dealing with our TA..he would always give the credits or upgrades sometimes we got both.

When is your final payment due. Some TAs don't make changes after the final payment has been made. The good ones seem to but not all.

My final pymt is only due in late July. What my TS told me was that its just like if you go to the store and buy a dress, if it goes on sale next week the store will not credit you.
I don't know how it works but from what I've seen on these boards I should get a credit or at least an upgrade for sure if the price drops!
Please help what should I do!!!

<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
I guess it depends on where you shop. One year I bought an evening gown from Sears for a Christmas party. I paid $120 for it; the next week it was on sale for 20% off. I went back to the store with the receipt and they DID credit me $24 plus the difference in sales tax. I had the dress (with tags still on it) in the car, but they told me they didn't even need to see the dress.
My point it, maybe you need to go to a new "store". Many TA's will go to bat for you to get upgrades or credits even after final payment.

Here's my experience. I just booked the Victory for June (4A inside) earlier this week. I just put down the deposit. Yesterday the prices went down $100 (the 70 days out thing). I called the TA this morning to see what they'd do with the price drop. They said they couldn't do anything. I'd already checked another TA and knew I could get an Oceanview Guarantee for slight less than I paid for the 4A. At that point I just cancelled my original booking and booked the OV. I'd say you should tell your TA to take a hike. Thanks!

We booked on March 25 for June 8 cruise. Booked an 8A GTY. In April we got upgraded to 8I on a price drop (promotion). Last week we got $100pp shipboard credit on a price drop. I had to call each time though, it was not automatic. Every TA is different. But the line you are getting is bull. The lesson learned is to ask before booking about price drops and the timeframe when they occur and the TA deals with them.

You've got a loser! Drop them. Please don't tell me they have a cancellation fee?
Even our glorious Kmart honors price drops within 30 days. Just did it yesterday!
There are so many Ta's online and not online that will work for your business if you ask them to. But don't ever sign up with any TA that charges cancellation fees.
You've got me going, is this an online TA that we might all recognize?
Good Luck!

crazsea, no its not an online TA. Its one not too fay from y house. SHe was also very discouraging about booking a gty. She said that it was very rare that there are ever upgrades and that maybe it wasn't a good idea to book gyt in the hopes of a 'free' upgrade.
I don't know if there are any cancellation fees maybe I should call her and book directly with carnival? Does anyone know if carnival gives credits if the price drops if you bood directly with them? or upgrades instead of the credit?

It sounds to me like this TA doesn't have much experience booking cruises. I think her advice to you about booking a guarantee should have been that you should book the least possible category that would make you happy. That way, if you don't get upgraded, you won't be so disappointed, but if you do get upgraded, great! Upgrades are NOT as rare as she is telling you. We almost always book guarantees and have been upgraded every single time. One of these days, I'm sure our luck will run out and we'll get what we paid for. http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Yes Carnival guarentees an automatic upgrade if the price drops, so does Sams Club where I booked. I only booked with Sams Club because they were $400 less for the 5 of us, when I asked my TA at Carnival why she said they get a group rate. Sams Does have a $25 pp. Cancelation fee, and as I understand it the insurance is never refundable(but well worth every penney) Theresa

Cassidy, Cruisingmom2 is right on the money. Your Ta is a poor one! Guar Cabins are a great buy for the money, but if your Ta is not going to bother helping you, why would you help them with your support(your dollars).

Please dump this TA.
When you re-book with another TA, ask questions before booking with them.
How do they handle price drops before final payment? DO they actually give you money back, or will they at least get you upgraded OR get you ship board credit.
After final payment, how do they handle price drops?
These questions need to be asked before booking. YOu really need to do your homework.
After you book, it is YOUR responsiblity to keep track of the prices. Make sure you know WHAT prices your new TA will honor...will they only honor price drops on their web site? OR if you see your cruise on another web site and it's a lot cheaper, will they honor that price?
ASK. ASK. ASK.
Booking directly through Carnival will be safe and get you upgrades and ship credits with no hassle...but there are cheaper TA's out there that have great reputations and are very reputable.
Also, if you have been reading any of the other threads dealing with cruise insurance, you know if you are one that likes to have insurance, you should get it on your own, NOT through the TA. Make sure to read all fine print and make sure the coverage is what you need.

casidy_123 - Why not take a few minutes and check out the pricing at some of the online place before you call Carnival just so you can know a few different prices. I have always found prices that are much less than Carnival and I've gotten upgrades and credits when the prices changed with my online agency. If you scroll through some of the messages on these boards you will find bunches of online websites that you can (if nothing else) price out your cruise.
Research is the key to all the knowledge that everyone on this board has (I have found from hours and hours of reading and picking the brains of these cruise geniuses)so go do some research and decide what is best for you and yours - oh and ask if you have any questions http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I am booked with Carnival PVP. My rate (before the 3 category upgrade they gave me) just dropped $100 and they credited me with $100. The rate through Carnival beat all the online companies because of the upgrades. BTW I booked before Carnival ran the last "upgrade to best available" promotion and still got the upgrades.

Its a good thing you found this out before final payment. After the final payment your hands are tied and transferring will cost you money.
When we booked the Victory using a travel agent close to home she did not give us any price reductions AFTER final payment. I learned a very valuble lesson with that as we lost a few hundred bucks==wonder who got to keep that money? Now its the first question I ask.
Cassidy" do not wait to much longer to transfer your booking. You can transfer it to any other agent..online or otherwise. It would be in your own interst to do so.
I think its a good decision to let your agent know why too. Dont cancel the cruise..just transfer it. THe travel agents work for you.
Sometimes booking a guarantee is not good as you may get an upgrade or you may not. At least you get what you paid for.

Get a quote from quickcruises.com - our was hundreds of dollars lower than Carnival and other sites we checked AND I emailed this morning at 7 a.m. about a price drop and had a revised booking back within the hour! And it was a price drop to match, NOT just a credit.
They are a pure internet company, only do emails, but I find it much easier to communicate that way then wait for return phone calls from a human being!

Cassidy: keep an eye on the carnival web site. Make believe you are booking a cruise and search for your ship/sailing date and category. Most agencies do not give you a reduction of price based on another agency.

Casidy... I agree with the suggestion that you should look around and tell this TA that they lost your business... ..We have booked a guarantee 3 times and 2 of those times were were upgraded to a better deck, but was still an inside cabin.. this last time we were upgraded from an inside cabin to an oceanview!! A year or so ago we went to a cruise show in our area and we talked to a carnival rep and asked her about crediting when the prices go down.. she said that if the cruise is not paid off yet then Carnival WILL give credit back to your card.. If the cruise is paid off then they will give onboard credit .... so if you have a TA who says Carnival wont do it, I would say they are wrong.. Before booking a cruise with a TA I would ask if they are willing to call carnival when there is a price drop .. if they say no, I would walk.. You will find one that is willing to do this to keep your business..

After you rebook, when you are keeping track of the prices, I would look at on line agencies not Carnival, for comparison. On line agencies tend to be cheaper. Check Best Price Cruises and Cruise Quick for example. But please make sure that WHO you book through will honor other agencies rates! I booked through BPC, but they told me they do NOT honor all other prices, just their going rates and the ones on the Carnival web site. I took a chance and booked with them anyway because their prices was so low, and it worked out for me. Their prices dropped heavily, especially during Carnival's sales days and no other agencies have come close to their price on my particular cruise...so it worked out good for me.

Yes, cruise quick is email only, but it is real people!
I think it is much, much easier to deal in emails with an agency like this that in my experience answers within an hour!
As I said earlier, I found out about a price drop and emailed them @ 7 in the morning on a saturday. I had an email back with a revised booking price within an hour.
With a more conventional ta, I would have had to wait till they opened, called, and in all likelihood have to leave a message, then wait for a call back, which in all likelihood I would have missed, then wait until Monday, and remember to call ... well you get the picture.
An email, and I'm done. Works for my busy lifestyle, but then again I'm an early adapter and have been comfortably handing over my CC on the internet for about 15 years.

I have found that if there is a price drop and your particular room category is all sold out, then you don't get the price drop or credit. Example, I booked a category 9 on Legend and I can't get a price drop or credit because the 9's are all sold out, even though the category 8's and category 11 suites (which are still available) have dropped in price. I guess I could switch to a category 8 but I didn't do my homework and my online TA charges a transfer fee of $50pp.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> Most agencies do not give you a reduction of price based on another agency. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
The above is an accurate statement. However mine did/does. I've gotten both an upgrade (8A GTY to 8I) and $100pp shipboard credit based on a competitors price drops. But it was this competitors price who they originally beat to get my booking to start with. So it makes sense that if that competitor drops it price, they should do something.

I am an agent and I always speak to my clients. I am home-based which gives me the ability to answer calls 24/7. If I don't answer right away, I return calls as soon as I retrieve my messages. Also, I do not charge a cancellation penalty and I will try to beat a price that you see on another agency's website, when possible.
If your current travel agency is not willing to transfer the booking to another agency, you should call Carnival and tell them about your dissatisfaction and ask them if they will let you transfer it to another agency. They probably will not, however, involve themselves with any cancellation fees that your current agency is charging. It might be worth paying a cancellation penalty if you are saving more than the penalty is. Also, if you go to a new agency that will honor price matches, it would be worth the penalty fee since further reductions might be possible.
Good luck,
