We are on Istanbul-Athens cruise starting Oct. 24. We feel we will be all "toured out" by the time we get to Athens and were planning to re-visit Acropolis and walk around on our own. We were in Athens one day on cruise 2 yrs ago. We do hear Delphi is interesting but a 2 hr ride each way. Has anyone done the Delphi tour, is it worth the long drive. Our other ports are Kusadasi, Rhodes, Corfu, Santorini, Mykonos and Dubrovnik.
Thanks,
Rita :)

Dear Ritarose: That's a hard question to answer because it really depends on your particular interests. In the city, the Athens Antiquities Museum is really wonderful; the changing of the guard is fun to watch; and just wandering around the Plaka is a great way to spend some time.
On the other hand, Delphi is quite magical. The site is incredible and its location in the mountains is breathtaking. The on-site Museum has been completely rebuilt since my first visit there 30 years ago and is now a spectacular setting for the marvelous artifacts such as the Charioteer.
Of course, we spent three days in Athens post-cruise, so we had time to see the city, then visit other places like Delphi and Mycaene, returning to Athens for dinner and evening strolls in the Plaka.
Don't stress -- just enjoy!

Like loum140, we did a three night post cruise in Athens a few years ago, We took an all day optional tour to Delphi. Although loum140 described it to a "T", it is the feeling one gets when visting Delphi, which is nearly impossible to put into words. Although DH was not keen to take this tour, he will now be the first to say, "GO!"

We have been to Athens several times, have been to Cape Sounion, to Corinth and have been looking for another excursion outside the city. I have heard several people mention the beauty and intrigue of Delphi, and have inquired about a day trip from a guide company based in Athens. They said that we would not have time for a one day excursion to Delphi. We will be in port from 8 am to 6 pm. We will be on the Nautica, sailing on November 15.

Dear Rita,
We will be on the Nautica Istanbul to Athens 10/24-11/05 and have arranged for a driver for a day-long trip to Mycenae, Corinth, Epidaurus, etc. on Saturday, Nov 4 while docked in Piraeus. While it's almost exactly the opposite direction from your ideal trip to Delphi, you would be welcome to share our excursion. If you would like the details of this adventure, let us know. Regards, Jon and Wendy

We have not posted before, but we will be on the 10/24 and 11/05 cruises (doing b2b's) and am wondering if perhaps you would share details of your Delphi tour info with us so that we could look into booking a similar tour for the two of us and perhaps adding another couple who would like to join us.
We did a tour of Delphi in October of 2000 on a Ren trip and it was outstanding in every way. Problem was that there was so much to see that we didn't get a chance to take it all in, and that was the year that we didn't carry the video camera! So we'd like to see it all again and this time bring home video memories.
