Need help planing day in Nassau

Three of us going and all three of us want to do different things.
Would love to do all three things but not sure if will have enough time.

I would like to see Atlantis including the digs.
My DH wants to go to the beach and snorkel.
My DD wants to do the walking tour, go figure she is a history teacher.

Can we get all three of these things in, when we are only in port form 7:00am until 3:00pm. Any information or suggestion would help.;)

We were scheduled to dock at 7AM, but were lucky to arrive early ( alittle after 6AM) and be able to get off the ship by 7:30AM.
My Wife and I did the walking tour straight off the boat
1)hoping it would be cooler
2)to do it first, so we could relax at the British Colonial Hilton until returning to the ship

Even with lingering for 30-45 minutes at the Queen's Staircase and again at the Graycliff, we were at the end of the walking tour at the British Colonial Hilton at 10:30AM-10:45....

My Wife and I had zero intrest in Atlantis, so I don't know how long the cab ride over and back would be. (or how long to walk the Digs and grounds.)

I don't know how the snorkleing at the beaches near Atlantis are, so maybe you could tie those two activites together. (hopefully somebody can answer about the snorkleing there)

Sounds like for a 8 hour (really more like 7 with boarding times) stopover, you guys might have to split up to accomplish all the different activities that you want to.
(we were in town from 7AM until 7AM the next morning, so we never had any time constraints)

Best of luck.
We loved Nassau.

I agree. Ship arrival times can vary. We were on Enchantment in March of 2001 and were scheduled to arrive in Nassau at 11 and didn't get to the pier until about 1pm. We sat just beyond the lighthouse for 2 hours. Can't remember the scenario but plan on getting off the ship about 45 min to an hour after you pull in. Customs...Paperwork..ETC. Nassau is not an early town but you can check out the shops on Bay Street.

Straw Market....UMM well if you like that kind of stuff...look carefully most of the stuff is from Indonesia and the Far East. Pick up a Bahamian license plate for the fron of your car. You'll find those in the straw market. British Colonial Hilton is pretty to visit. Nice outside bar area but the bar probably won't be open that early. the beach at the Hilton is pretty but remember the water there has a higher content of "other stuff" from the ships...Oil/Fuel ETC.

We usually eat lunch in Nassau at Conch Fritters..across the street from the Hilton. Pretty cheap. We visited Christ Church Cathedral and were lucky enough to find the custodian and he gave us a private tour.

Then it's on to Cable Beach. Jitney Bus #10. Runs continuously there and back until about 6PM. Our first visit to the Bahamas was a week at the Wyndham..at the time it was a Marriott. We go there. Walk right in and visit the pool...there's a bar and restaurant outside. It's pretty run down but you're not staying there. Adjacent to the Wyndham is the Nassau Beach Hotel. Great little beach there with grass huts if you need a respite from the sun. Also attached to the Nassau Beach Hotel is Cafe Johnny Canoe. Fun Place and not too expensive. We just like to hit the beach. Never done the Zoo or the Staircase or any of the forts.

The Sovereign stays in Nassau from 7AM to Midnight so we have 17 hours in port. This itinerary is great if you want to do everything in Nassau including Graycliff or the Sun And restaurant. Expensive places so we always head back for dinner on the ship the perhaps back over to Atlantis..Really pretty at night. You'll have to take a cab over to Paradise Island. the buses do go over. One year we found a cabby with a van...there were 8 of us. we gave him a $50 and he took us over to the Columbus Tavern on Paradise Island for dinner. Came back at a specified time. Took us all over the place. We had a blast. He did too with his bottle of rum in the cupholder and Motown blaring out of the speakers. By the end of the evening we were driving through Nassau at 15 MPH singing Smokey Robinson Songs as loud as we could. Unbelievable!

Thank you for the information, all the things you did on both of your trips sound great and lots of fun. I am still up in the air about what to do, but I am sure whatever it is we will have fun. Im down to the wire with only 9 days before we leave.:)

We were on Sensation 9/21. We did our own thing. We found alot of Nassau info. on Cruise critic and it was perfect. We took a cab for 5 bucks to the RIU hotel next to Atlantis and spent a few hours on Cabbage Beach. Absolutely awesome. You can rent jet skis, parasail and do the banana boat. They have locals right on the beach selling all you can drink rum drinks from coconuts for 10 bucks. It is great. Then we walked to Atlantis, not far at all. We took tons of pics. from the resorts grounds. You can see alot of the Dig without having to pay. We went into the casino for awhile and checked out the shops as well. The beach at Cabbage patch were we stayed had the most incredible waters. Good Luck!!
