Tipping Tour Guides?

I don't think I've seen this discussed in the trip reports that I've read. (Or can't remember)
But if you "did" tip Tour Guides, how much and for what, etc.

I tipped the equivalent of US$5 for the tour guide and US$2 for the bus driver in local currency. I don't know if this was the correct amount, but noone complained.
