We're leaving Saturday, the 23rd, on the Oosterdam. Husband is curious as to how many will be wearing tuxedos on the formal nights.....he likes to wear a tuxedo but wonders if he will be one among few or, one among many. I know this was posted before but for the life of me I can't locate it - I know it's getting late in the day but any clothing advice appreciated!

On formal night you may see most anything. Most will be in dark suits, some in tuxes, and others in various assortments of attire that do not meet the dress code suggestions which are generally not enforced. If he wants to wear a tux and not stand out, try Crystal or Silversea.

My DH wears a dark jacket and slacks to match. On occasion he's rented black tie on board. He's never felt that he "stands out" and I must say in that outfit he looks fabulous in the formal night photos, compared to his dark "suit" outfit. If your husband likes to dress up, go for it.

I love the formal night photos. My husband looks extra special with his dark suit and tie. It's just something he doesn't do everyday!
These picutres are extra meaningful to me and have a very special place in our home.
You are on a cruise. You don't do it everyday!
Have fun with your attire and, I promise he will not look out of place if he chooses to wear a tux. Men look so, so handsome when they dress formally! ;)

If he likes to wear his tux, go for it! He will not look out of place! Like's been said, on formal nights you will see tuxes, dark suits, light suits, leisure suits:eek: , sports coats, t-shirts and shorts (just kidding;) ) We'll be boarding Oosterdam the day you get back and I'm wearing mine. Enjoy your Christmas cruise and say hi to Lougee and Constructiondude!

We did Mexican Riviera two years ago in March. I wore a tuxedo on the formal nights. I brought along two or three T. Bahama silk camp shirts and they worked fine on other nights. Also had a couple tropical ties that I wore with a shirt and no jacket a few dinners. Weather was hot for us, so t-shirts, shorts and sandals were right for the ports.

Your husband will likely be in the minority but he will certainly not be alone in wearing a Tux. Remember too that this is a "Holiday cruise" and people will be more dressed up than usual.
The men in their Tuxes always look outstanding so tell him to "go for it". He is sure to attract some admiring glances from the ladies who have gone to the trouble of adhering to dress code and actually do "dress for the occasion" (meanwhile muttering under their breath to their husbands - next cruise you are getting a Tux or else).*
Have a wonderful cruise.
Valerie:)

Before my last cruise, I would have debated that sentiment.
But after seeing the gorgeous men in Tuxes on my last cruise -- absolutely
WEAR A TUX!!!!

Yes, have DH wear his tux! Many guys look GRAND in their tuxes on the Mexican Riviera cruise.
Don't forget to bring a sweater or light jacket along ---the first/last days can be very cool!

BOS, I think you will be surprised how many guys will be wearing Tux's. I think all the women looked great in their gowns but wow do those guys look wonderful in those Tux's.
Being this will be a Christmas cruise by all means he should wear a Tux's, holiday cruise people seem to dress up even more. Have fun!

Did the Oosterdam 12/2-12/9. My DH wore a tux and I would say 40% of the crowd wore them. We had a very large card group on board and as it was posted earlier (600 people) they did their own thing many nights and I found that the dress code in general was not up to par on this particular cruise.

Your DH will be in the minority wearing a tux, but he will stand out in his handsomeness! My DH always wears a tux on one formal night, and a white dinner jacket on the other. He looks great and he most always gets comments on how good he looks. Tell your DH to dress and feel good about how good he looks!

I know this was posted before but for the life of me I can't locate it - I know it's getting late in the day but any clothing advice appreciated! On our recent Amsterdam sailing I would guess about 25 to 30% of the men wore tux; 50% dark suits and the rest sport coats. The gals were mostly in cocktail dresses with some in formals. I wore a formal one night and cocktail outfit the other. NMNita

We just returned from the Oosterdam and yes, many men did wear a tuxedo on formal nights. However, most were in suits or even just a shirt and tie. (It did not seem like the dress code was enforced at all - probably due to the air conditioning situation which hopefully you've heard of. In case you haven't: the a/c is down for the forseeable future and it is hotter than you-know-what on that "dam" ship!)
Needless to say, we noticed that most of the men who did adhere to the dress code quickly changed back to shorts and polo shirts after dinner.
