i'm sure this question has been asked time and again...

but i thought i'd start a new poll since we now have new boards.

what is your favorite cruising destination and why?

for me, its by far and away Alaska. i couldn't imagine a place more perfect for cruising. the beauty of Alaska is just so awe-inspiring and breathtaking!

anyhow, so what's your favorite?

*disclaimer: these new polls only give 10 possible choices, so don't flame me if your favorite destination isn't listed here. just choose "other" then reply and let us know why

Hawaii.. hands down my FAVORITE cruise destination. Love all the island hopping with out that packing/unpacking. I love the climate, the nature, the culture, the aquatic life, the Luau's.. and I could go on & on.. I wish I could go again - maybe 2006

I've only been on Caribbean cruises. But if I had my choice of any of the above I'd go with the Mediterranean.

Hard to pick just one.....

Love cruising the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Panama Canal,

I don't care about returning to Hawaii and have no desire for Alaska. We have enough cold, snow and ice in New England. I'd rather view Iceland and Greenland.

waiting to have enough time to cruise in Asia.....(we want to have at least 45 days.)

My favorite is definately the Caribbean, I need the sun and warmth. Living in Seattle we have enough gray days. Have already done Alaska and Hawaii is right around the corner for us.....

Next big cruise will be to Greek Islands in 2006, that will be exciting!

NE/C. Ports are nice and quiet. Easy (and, like me, cheap) to get to the ship from where I live.

This is hard, because my favorite cruise is the one I'm on at the time! ;) Canada/New England were truly wonderful. Alaska is hard to beat for sheer beauty. Panama Canal is awesome. The Caribbean is fun, but just doesn't hold the appeal for me that it does for most folks. For this poll I checked "other." I felt our journey through Scandinavia, the Baltic and Russia was one-of-a-kind. So much history in the ports. And visiting St. Petersburg and Moscow was a true highlight for me. I may change my mind after our September Mediterranean voyage on the Prinsendam ... but for now our roundtrip out of Copenhagen squeaks by as the most fave.

If you would of asked me before May I would of said "Caribbean" with out a doubt. I can honestly say that I loved Alaska and would do it again in a minute. I grew up in Iowa with lots of snow and ice but Alaska was like nothing I had ever seen. I have always been the tropical vacation person but I know will say we will be cruising Alaska at least once every 3 or 4 years. Maybe more often if a good deal appeared but those are far and few for Alaska. I think I honestly came back far more relaxed from Alaska than any where else.

I think mine to date would have to be 1. Baltic Region 2. Meditterean 3. South America 4. Alaska.

I have no doubt that if we were to take a cruise to Tahiti, Australia/NZ, and Asia, that they will be among the list! As we have too much sun in the summer, the break in Alaska is a welcome relief with some of the most stunning scenery I've ever seen!

I haven't had a cruise to date that I didn't like.........

I voted other because Transatlantic wasn't listed. I love to have a few ports in Europe and all the sea days.

;) Cruises

We have loved all of our cruises. We have been to the Baltic a couple of times, the Mediterranean several times, South America, Alaska numerous times, Canada/New England a couple of times, through the Panama Canal (full transit several times), Mexican Riviera several times, a trans Atlantic (QE 2), and many, many, many Caribbean cruises - east, west, & south.

A ship is just our second home away from home.

I voted "other" because I have been all around the world in the last 8 years and have seen some fantastic places. Having said that,I think I love Bermuda(went there before on honeymoon in 1982)first and Bali second. Two diverse islands to be sure but both completely unforgettable.
Bermuda for obvious reasons......But Bali will always stay with me because of the hospitality and love shown me by the Balinese people. There is much more to Bali than Kuta Beach and the touristy areas. The northern part of the island has gorgeous scenery and is much cooler than the Denpasar region.

I think I left part of my heart in both Bermuda AND Bali....(but I can't make a song out of that! LOL!)

I love anywhere in the Carribbean . I am a "fun in the sun" kind oif guy.

Still I would love to take an Alaskan cruise. Every one I have talked to and certainly the posts I have read here say it is breathtakingly beautiful there.

Just can't convince GF to go. She is the ultimate sun goddess and she feels the same way as S7S, we have enough snow and ice and cold in New England.

No matter what the selections, this is a hard one. I LOVED Antarctica. I also loved Northern Europe and the Northern Transatlantic. Circle-Hawaii was wonderful too. Hard to choose ... so I selected "Other."

It is hard to pick just one. For me it's a toss up between Alaska and Hawaii repositionings ...

I have to pick other too. We've done a dozen and have 2 more booked. All but the one to Mexico have been great. I guess #1 would have to be our Baltic one and #2 Alaska. Panama, New England, and Hawaii aren't far behind. The carribean is great for a relaxing get-away type of vacation. But those with scenery and interesting ports are more memorable in the long run.

I've only been on Black Sea, Caribbeans (Eastern) and Mediteranean.

I loved every of them for different reasons.

I would like to return to Med someday with one condition... I don't want to do Rome or Florence again (expensive and deserves separate land visit).

I wish we could have more stops in scenic French Rivera. I loved Villefranche(Between Cannes and Monte Carlo). May be we can stay in Cannes and then in Monte Carlo. I would love to stop in Sorrento next time instead of Naples(I liked Naples but didn't have a time to go to Sorrento)

I found interesting itinerary on suspicious (may be for me?) cruise line ship Regatta.

Regatta departing Rome on 9/15/04 for 10 night(s)

Ports: Sorrento Tyrrhenian Sea Sardinia Livorno Portofino Monte Carlo Marseille Balearic Sea Palma de Mallorca Barcelona.

Looks great to me. I really want to go to Palma de Mallorca too. :)

One size does not fit all - so had to vote "other" which is probably closest to the truth. Some of the "exotics" offered by Princess really get my attention.

A big plus for me is the number of sea days - I love them - I know many people who dread them.

Easier for me to say where I don't like to cruise - but that is a different story, because I know there are a lot of people who like the Caribbean and Mexico - I don't!

I actually love sea days .

No running around , getting up early , gotta be here , gotta be back by this time.

Nice to just get up , have a leisurely breakfast, bum around by the pool, make play in the casino, walk around the ship and explore. And then again maybe not *LOL*

just a nice day to do what you want with no time restrictions and really no place to be.

I am with sail7seas, being from New England you really don't want to go to any other place below 80 degrees:p

Caribbean would have to be my first choice ... Hawaii would be nice too.

I know I am in the minority here, but I can't imagine cruising to Alaska. I can't imagine these cruises to the Anartic. I live in Philadelphia, and we get some Godawful cold winters. I can get all the ice and snow I want right here ... and for free too! I just can't see the allure of cruising Alaska despite what I am told about it's amazing beauty.

Of course, my opinion could change ... but as of now I want warm days and cool Carribean breezes when I cruise. :)

Blue skies!

I have really liked everywhere. The Panama Canal was interesting. I love the gorgeous clear water in the Caribbean. The western coast of Mexico was fun. But, I could sail and never stop at a port. I love sea days. If it was a long cruise to nowhere though, it would have to be in the Caribbean for the clear water and small islands to pass by.

Glad to read lovely things about Alaska. I think I am going to take two of my children next summer. The cold holds no appeal to my husband or other child.

My favorite destination is usually the ship itself... I've been to the Caribbean so often, it doesn't have any great draw now, unless I'm going to one of the smaller islands like St. Barts or St. Vincent, Carriacou, Mayreux...
My last trip was to Tahiti and French Polynesia - absolutely stunning!
It was like Hawaii 50 years ago, superb breathtaking scenery everywhere, friendly people. The only downside - EXPENSIVE!!
I also enjoyed Las Palmas and the Canary Islands...

We love the Caribbean and nine of our eleven cruises have been there. One Mexican Riviera cruise was enough to say been there done that. Alaska, on the other hand, is worth repeating--especially in July or August when the temps around here are 90+ with the humidity about the same.
The main thing is being on a ship somewherehttp://ourworld.cs.com/KsmithCCI/exclaimation.gif :) :)

Its funny to read the replies from those who have never cruised Alaska, attributing it to a desire to avoid "cold & ice"! HAL doesn't cruise to Nome, guys! :)

Juneau, Ketchikan, even Anchorage are (during cruise months) just as temperate as any "lower 48" city - more so than many. Now if you must lay on a beach, or must elbow with rude passengers off those OTHER ships in stores, or would absolutely miss being harrangued by Caribbean taxi drivers and "street merchants" then you problably wouldn't like Alaska.

That's fine with me, because its getting too crowded up there anyway

The ports are nearly all the same - hot, same type of shopping, same kind of tours, and after all tequila is tequila.

Our favorite was the 17 day South American Cruise. Our second favorite would be the Med and the third would be Hawaii. We have cruised 16 times with three more scheduled. Love cruising anywhere!

So far, the only ones we've done are Mediterranean, Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, and I've done Alaska. In December we do the Panama Canal. I voted for Mexican Riviera and Caribbean because they are warm and sunny and I can actually get in the water without turning blue.
I like port-intensive itineraries and hope we can do a Hawaii cruise someday, but I think I would fly to Honolulu and get on the ship there.
I would love to see the South Pacific islands, have seen some beautiful photos of peoples' cruises there. It looks gorgeous, and that would probably be my next dream cruise. It just takes so long to get there...!

We have only been to the Eastern and Western Caribbean and Alaska (twice). Alaska, by far, was our favourite. We are scenery "freaks" and almost overdosed on the most amazing scenery we had ever seen. The bald eagles, orcas, whales, porpoises, etc. - incredible. Glaciers calving, nature talks, everything was perfect. Going the second time didn't decrease our enthusiasm one bit. We are definitely going to do this one again.

Cheers, Elizabeth

I don't think I have ever sailed an itinerary that I didn't like. In the past five years or so I have picked the ship I wanted and let the ship be my destination. I love cruising in Europe and the British Isles and wish that I had the $$$ and the time to cruise over and back every year.

We're booked for the 35 day Maasdam for next July and are very excited. It's a great time of year to get away from hot, humid and rainy Florida and the ports are very interesting.

One of my favorite cruises was on Rotterdam from Barcelona to Venice. Wonderful ship and great ports of call. Which equates to a large VISA Bill.

In 1992, a group of 13 of us took a 12-day cruise up the Volga River in Russia, aboard the "RUSS". The scenery was beautiful and the Russian people could not have been friendlier.

We are planning on going back and this time, fly in into St. Petersburg and then take a short cruise down the Volga River to Moscow and then take the Trans Siberian Railroad to Vladistock.

I don't think so at all. I think the ports are more interesting than the Caribbean.
