We are thinking about buying stock in Carniaval. What are the perks if we do ? Do we get on board credit? How does it work?

If you own at least 100 shares of Carnival stock (CCL) you qualify for on board credits for each cruise. The amounts are:
$50 per cabin for cruises up to 6 days;
$100 per cabin for cruises 7-13 days;
$250 per cabin for cruises of 14 days or more.

If you cruise several times a year this can amount to the equivalent of a very nice tax-free dividend. :)

HAL refused to give me the credit on the Rotterdam's transatlantic cruise in November. Over the last few months others have been denied the credit. I would not trust HAL. Celebrity(RCCL has the same program as Carnival) and Princess seem to be better about giving the credit.

I have also heard that if you own stock and they are running short on help they might have the share holders wait tables or swab the deck:confused:

We own Carnival stock. In 2006 we received ship board credit on the 3 cruises that we took with HAL. Just send the required paper work to Seattle. The credit will appear on your ship board account.

The CCL shareholder's credit is not combinable with other programs that give shipboard credits - and clearly states so in the shareholder's annual report.

BTW - It's not a HAL issue, its a CCL issue - and CCL owns Princess too...

HAL also refused me on my recent Maasdam 11-22 December cruise. Said I paid to little money for my "B" class Veranda cabin to receive OBC for price quoted when I booked cruise.:mad: Sheeze, I guess ya gotta pay nearly FULL fare to get that OBC. I still had a 'Super' cruise on that beautifull "Dam" ship!

Oh well, I'll try again on my Dec. '07 cruise on the Carnival Freedom ship when I'll be in a "plain olde" Inside cabin, maybe I'll get lucky with that reverse kind of thinking.:rolleyes:

Hope you still have a wonderfull cruise.

On my last 19 HAL cruises I've been refused the shareholders shipboard credit twice. Both times I was told I didn't pay enough. It's very odd because on my most recent Hawaii cruise I paid less than the previous Hawaii cruise. I received the shareholders shipboard for the cheapest cruise, but not for the more expensive one. So I just send in the information and when I'm on the cruise I check my shipboard account and then I find out if I am feeling really really great. Take care.

There may be a "threshold" percentage of the full rate that you must pay to qualify, but it must be a pretty steep discount based on our experience. We booked our Baltic cruise through the cheapest online discounter we could find. When I called to make sure that we would get the credit the person at HAL stated "Yes, you paid enough to qualify for the credit".

I just confirmed our SBC for the upcoming 66 day cruise on Prinsendam. This cruise was specially priced for Grand Mariners for booking almost a year in advance, there was additional discount for paying in full before a certain date, there is already a $1000 SBC for booking early, AND my T/A further reduced the price of the cruise considerably below the HAL Grand Mariner price. The stockholders' SBC has been confirmed.

My suggestion to anyone with a question about whether their booking qualifies would be to call Karen Stuart at the World Cruise Reservations desk... that's the department that is handling the shareholder credit appplications now.. at (800)522-3399. She should be able to confirm eligibility with your booking number.
