Hello all!

We're looking at Silver Shadow's November 14th voyage which leaves from Barbados, transits the Panama Canal and disembarks at Puerto Calderas in Costa Rica. What airport is closest to Puerto Calderas that I should look at to price out air?

Thanks in advance.

SJO is the airport you will need to leave from.

mcpepe -

The transfer from Caldera to San Jose is painless. Silversea charges $85pp for a bus transfer. For $105 total you can reserve a private minivan that holds 5-6 - check with http://www.transportationmonteverde.com/ Company Transport Costa Rica Monteverde S.A. The service is great!!

JMM:

Thanks for the tip on the Caldera to San Jose transfer. We're on the 9/26 sailing from San Francisco to Puerta Caldera and have yet to book our transfers.

Do you also have some recommendations on where to stay in or around SJO? We'll be there for 2 nights post-cruise.

Any other CC's on this sailing?

Shore excursions for the Sept 26 SFO to Puerto Caldera Shadow itinerary can now be reserved on the Silversea website.

As expected, there are no excursions offered in Costa Rica.
Thank you JMM for the transfer company recommendation.

Can anyone recommend a day tour operator in San Jose, CR?
Costa Rica Rain Forest Tours has a website. Any reviews?

We will be staying over one day and would like to do something other than shopping.

TIA - Jim

I was in Puerto Limon, on a Silversea cruise, this past January. We took a zip line tour through the treetops. I was told that there were more than a dozen similar facilities in Costa Rica. It is very popular. Prior to climbing the stairs leading to my first very tall tree platform, I was not nervous. When told to step off the tree platform, and how to use my brake (which is your gloved hand) I thought perhaps I was crazy to have chosen to do the tour. But... after my first glide, I loved it. It was fun to "sit down" in my harness and slide down to another platform. It is a great experience - I recommend trying it.
