How convenient is parking to HAL in Fort Lauderdale? Is it covered parking?

Thanks

There is a large parking garage directly across the street from the port location. We have not used it so I do not know if it's open to the public or what it's rates are. It's extremely convenient.

We have used the parking facilities, and they are covered. I believe the last time we were there, last December, it was $10 a day. Perhaps someone that has been there more recently can advise if the price has gone up. We were very happy with the parking experience.

My mom's cousin and her husband park here all the time when they cruise with us and they find it to be great. Not sure what they pay per day, but it is a covered garage.

Covered parking is very conveniently located right across from the main Terminal that HAL uses the most. During the winter with so many ships sailing from FLL, they use more than one terminal.

Parking in the covered garage is $12 per day, payable when exiting upon your return. All major credit cards are accepted. Recommend driving into the embarkation area to unload bags to be checked through (there are porters to take them to the proper loading area). I always wait there with our carryon while DH drives across the road to park. The garage is a very short walk back and also has an elevator.

Upon return and clearing customs, you can take your bags with the cart to the elevator, take your bags (minus the cart) to the parking level where your car is located, and one of you can stay w/the bags while the other gets the car.

Don't recommend waiting with the bags while the other goes for the car, as the area is extremely congested w/buses, cabs, limos, and more than likely your car will be flagged to move on by a police officer or security person.

Very important: Be sure to write down the level number and section when parking the car. Guaranteed -- if you don't -- you'll return from your cruise on such a high you'll spend alot of time walking around in circles. Been there, done that!

Have a great cruise. You'll love HAL.:)

The Park n' Fly company has a lot near the port. I just read in the local paper that they are doing their thing for the Port now, too. $7.50 / day. I think the shuttle runs every half hour. Maybe when the ships dock, they will come more often. I HATE giving that $12 to the county. That is such a rip.

$52.50 vs $84.00

I guess it depends on what the weather is like!

We had looked into other parking options, such as the "Park/Sleep/Cruise" and "Fly/Sleep/Cruise" programs offered by several of the hotels/motels in FLL. We drive from the Sarasota, FL area over to FLL, and our hotel preference is the LaQuinta (Airport) which participates in the program. Their package, as I recall, was $89 (April 25-Dec. 31) and $139 (Jan 1-Apr 24) for up to 14 days of parking. However, the vehicles are not in a covered, fenced-in or secure area. Shuttle service to the pier is provided on a first-come, first-served basis (must sign up when checking in), and the Port does not allow their shuttle to return for pickup, so a cab must be used to return to the hotel to retrieve one's vehicle. Each of the participating hotels have different rates & provisos. If interested, the site is: http://www.parksleepfly.com

While we agree the Port's parking rate could & should be lower, sometimes the inconvenience & aggravation involved in saving a few bucks just isn't worth it, and spending a few extra bucks for peace of mind while at sea works for us.
