I have just read the CC review for the REGAL PRINCESS which is of course the new PACIFIC DAWN and they do not reccomend it for families because the Kid's facilities are too small
When P&O refit the ship are they taking this into account and increasing facilities for kids.
We cruised on the OCEANA for 7 days last year and their Kid's facilities were also limited.
I wonder if any of our many informed members know.

Looking at the deckpalns of both the Regal Princess, and Pacific Dawn, it is exactly the same. Same size, layout etc.
Princess ships aren't really 'family' ships, therefore there isn't the need for a huge Kid's club area.
Not much is changing in the transfer, except the casino is moving, and a lounge/bar area moved into the Dome area. The movie theatre is going as well.
The only other things that will change, will be the addition of another 500 berths.
Also, I also have read that she is a bit run down, so hopefully they will do some renovations during the transfer.

I asked the same questiom when I first saw the deck plans because as Aussiecruiser said, they are no different to te Regal. However, Ive decided not to worry about it (my kids will be 11,13 & 16). The teen club area on the Sun was very small but they used other parts of the ship (eg Oz disco, Atlantis showlounge) so I figured they'll just do the same on the Dawn. We all know that P&O Aust is very family oriented (as opposed to Princess etc) so I'm sure they'll do their best to accomodate families.

Thank for your replies, we live in Perth so we have got to fly to meet the ship anyway, would the PACIFIC SUN be a better bet for us. Our boys will be 11 & 7.

I would say that as a part of the refit they will improve the children's facilities - they did during the refit of Tropicale to become Pacific Star. I would be suprised if they didn't match the facilities offered on Pacific Star and Pacific Sun - particularly as Pacific Dawn will be operating from their biggest market base in Sydney.

I am sure as Pacific Dawn the ship will have reasonable facilities for children, they are not putting in 3rd and 4th berths in many cabins for zilch. They want families on board as per current P&O ships. This will be the largest ship to be based in Australia at 70,000 tonnes and 2050 pax so they will want families aboard to fill the ship up, empty ships do not pay.
