Having never cruised either disney or carnival, I don't know if a disney suite (cat 3) is worth twice as much as a suite (12. upper deck) on the the sensation. i have my wife and two kids (3 yrs old & 6 months old) traveling with me.

any suggestions are appreciated.

I have cruised both Disney and Carnival, and would pay twice as much for a Disney cruise in a second. Our DCL cruise was expensive, but worth every last cent. It was great from the second we walked onto the ship 'til our teary-eyed departure. :p

DH and I have only cruised Disney (planning 3rd sailing). And with your size family, you could do a Cat. 6 or 7 and have plenty of room ( 268 sq. ft./214 sq. ft.). You'd have the queen(?) size bed for yourselves and then the couch converts to a bed. There would be enough room for a portable crib. These also have a verandah and split bathroom (stool & sink in one and shower/tub & sink in the other). Cat. 8 & 9 are the same size, just Outside with Porthole cabins.

Checking out my "Passporter" guide, a Cat. 4 is called a "Deluxe Family with Verandah" sleeps 4-5 guests, 304 sq.ft.

I have sailed on many cruise lines including Carnival and have sailed on Disney Cruise line(DCL) 6 times and waiting to book summer of 2008.

We have the 4 of us...me, my DH and 2 boys ages 12 and 10. My 12 y.o is 5'7 and we always stay in Cat 6 which has a Verandah. My 12 y.o sleeps on the couch that turns into a comfy single bed and the top berth pulls down into a Bunk that my 10 y0 sleeps on. I have slept on the top and bottom and queen and there is more than enough room.

Also as mentioned there is a split batroom that has a toilet and sink in one and tub/shower and sink in the other.

If your looking for a little extra room get a Deluxe family stateroom...DCL has the largest rooms of all cruise ships for a standard stateroom.

But beware...once sailing Disney Cruise Line you may never want to sail any thing else....You may become a DCL addict...lol...

I have sailed Carnival, Caribbean and for the first time the Disney Wonder. What a difference. It was a great sail and I am looking forward to the next one which will be booked in a few months with Disney.

Having just sailed on the elation (carnival) and having sailed on the Wonder I would choose DCL if money was not a huge concern. The DCL line is so beautiful and great for kids. The night life (no casino) was a minor concern for us but I felt it was much nicer than Carnival. If you are going to do a suite than Disney definately offers MUCH better suite ammenities than Carnival. The only perk Carnival gives you is early boarding. Disney gives you concierge service, full insuite meals, etc. That will be a huge deal when traveling with kids.
