Just a reminder for all you folks cruising on the Zuiderdam. There is a log book in the library that you can sign. They keep it locked up with the magazines when the library is closed. You may need to remind the librarian where it is kept. Please report back on how many signatures are in it. Thanks

Never heard of this before.

A log book for cruise passengers on a ship!

We have been on quite a few HAL ships and have never heard of this!

Does anyone know of this?

I tried several times and missed the librarian, then just gave up. I'll sign in twice next time.

These visitors logs are on a lot of the ships. We were able to get one on the Maiden Voyage of the Queen Mary 2. Also, I know most of the Carnival ships have them. I think it's kind of nice to see people's names that we post with on these boards and read their comments.

We found a librarian one day and she showed us the desk where the log was sitting out on the top, but we had looked one day and without a clue where to look or what it looked like, never saw it. Anyway...looks kinda like a journal or diary size for those looking and on our June 12 Zuiderdam cruise, it was on a desk near the windows. It was neat to look through and see what everyone wrote.

Cusyl,

My family will be on the Zuiderdam on July 31, 2004. I love checking out the library on the cruise ships. I will definitely find and write in the journal. Then, I will report back to you, after my cruise, how many journal entries have been written. It is so nice that someone went out of their way (you) to begin a journal of memories on the Zuiderdam. I am hoping that my cruise is wonderful. This will be my first cruise with Holland America. My husband and I have cruised previously 11 times, the past six with RCL with our two teenaged daughters. Thank you so very much for reminding me.:) ;) :) ;)

Just wondered if anyone has inquired about the Cruise Critic visitor's log in the library. How many signatures do we have?

i signed the book on my cruise to the W. Caribbean on 7/10-7/17. i noticed that there were quite a bit of signatures. the book is more than half full, if i remember correctly. i actually signed it before the librarian showed up that day. the book was just sitting on top of some other books on one of the tables.

Thanks for the report. I put it on the Zuiderdam in March, so sounds like it is filling up fast. If anyone on future cruises finds it is almost full perhaps someone would volunteer to replace it with a new one. Maybe the librarian would keep them as they fill up for future cruisers to peruse.

The librarian was going to lock it up with with the magazines when the library was closed. If you look in the daily program it gives the hours that the library is attended.

Cusyl,

We have just returned from the Zuiderdam (7/31 - 8/7, 2004). I was in the library two times during the cruise. The log book was out next to the daily daily quiz basket and the librarian. There were 45 entries; yes, I counted them. I was the 46 signee on the log book. We were in rooms 8086 and 8088, and I left our names and cabin numbers. Thank yo for the log book. It was interesting to read the entries. All of them had good comments!

I signed it on both weeks of our Zuiderdam b2b cruises
8/7/04 & 8/14/04.
On 8/7 I think I was number 48 and on
8/14 I believe I was number 52 :)
Sorry I forgot to reply to your post earlier :)

I'll look for the log. You said Cruise Critics Log - Does it have a place for members' posting identities, or just their real names? Nobody would recognize many of us on such a log without a reference to our CC ID.

I've posted to find out if anyone is planning on putting a log book on the new Carnival Valor within the next couple of weeks before my cruise on her on 1/2/05. If no one has, I'll probably go ahead and do it. But, my question is what kind of book it should be, what information should be in it, etc. I remember there once were some threads about this, but they have disappeared after the conversion.

Can you help with this??

A Journal type book is great!, blank lined pages with no dates or days works well :) I say go for it! If there is not one there, put yours there :)

We are scheduled to be in 8088 this summer. What did you think of the room? Would you reserve it again? My husband wanted to be on the Navigation deck and I wanted a balcony. We will be traveling with our 10 year old son. It will be his second cruise. We took him on the Legend from New York in October and he loved it. Do you have any pictures of the room? I can't wait........

Just got off the April 9th, 2005 sailing of the Zuiderdam. Funny that I was in the library on a couple of occasions, but didn't see it, or was even aware that it existed. I'll be cruising again on the Zuiderdam, and will definately sign it on the next trip.

Best,

As always,

It's locked up in a cabinet... that's why you need the librarian.

Did anyone ever locate the book? It is usually locked up with the magazines at night. Please ask the librarian if it is still around.

When we were on the Zuiderdam in May we asked 3 times over 2 weeks - different people working in the library about the Cruise Critic log book.

Everyone gave us the same answer - it had been lost a couple of months before May.

I purchased a journal type book from the bookstore and wrote Cruise Critic Log on the front of it. It's too bad it is lost, perhaps a cruiser borrowed it and forgot to return it. Thank you for offering to start a new one.
