I am booking 4 balcony cabins for 9 family members next spring on the Zuiderdam. Ages are 20 - 85 and everywhere in between. The cabins do not have to be close together. I haven't received my HAL brochure yet and I am confused by the categories I have seen on some web sites - A, B, VA, VB????? Are the balconies like Princess in that some are larger balconies than others, some covered, others not etc? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I have booked my Zuiderdam cruise for next March and with all the wonderful advice here on this board, we booked an aft suite cabin with a mini suite next door. The balconies are a bit larger than the ones on the side and seem to be more open. Perhaps you should consider looking at the aft cabins.

Balconies directly adjacent to the center elevators are open for inspection to folks riding on the elevators.

Some of the forward balconies on upper promenade deck have opaque, instead of tranparent, shields. These are indicated on HAL's web site by a diamond icon.

"verandah railing instead of clear-view plexiglass railing"
you can see which cabins are so designated at:

Click on 'Deck Plans', then select upper promenade deck.
