Zuiderdam 2-3-07 sailing. We are docked in Tortola from 12pm to 10pm. Has anyone ever eaten dinner off the ship? Any problems getting back to the ship on time? Thanks!

I have been to Tortola, but not on a large cruise ship. If it is a nice day (not rainy) then Skyworld is a neat place to go; make your reservations so that you are there for sunset. Skyworld sits on a mountain and has fantastic views of the island. I also love to go to Quito's over in Cane Garden Bay. Even on the nights when Quito himself is not performing, his band plays (sometimes they have guest bands come in) and they are all very good. It really gets you in an "island mood". Taxis are plentiful (they are usually vans) but do give yourself plenty of time to get back to the ship; they are on island time down there and being punctual is not a high priority! Do make sure to get a "Painkiller" (the local drink - beware, it is potent)

There is a very nice restaurant at the Sugar Mill Hotel and Restaurant. Tortola is a small island. Allow yourself half and hour to 45 minutes to get just about anywhere (the roads are rough) and you should have no trouble getting back to the ship on time.

We stayed at the Sugar Mill HOtel a couple of years ago and they do a nice (but pricey) dinner there. There is another small hotel on the beach down the road from the Sugar Mill called Sebastians - which has a nice selection of seafood, Caribbean style food, salads etc. food was good and it is a very relaxed atmosphere.
